

Walter R Staley (Walt) of Lakewood, Colorado passed away on May 29, 2025 at the age of 95. He was born on January 31, 1930 in Kremmling, Colorado but grew up Granby, Colorado. He moved briefly to San Diego, California then back to Colorado where he lived the remainder of his life in Lakewood, CO.
Walt graduated from Mountair School in 1948. He went on to work as the Foreman of the Grounds Department for Denver Public Schools, where he was known for his dedication and hard work.
He was a longtime and active member of Mountair Christian Church, a place that was central to his life and faith.
Walt enjoyed golfing, cheering for the Colorado Rockies, traveling, and fishing. These activities brought him joy.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Jane Staley; father, Samuel Staley; sisters, Gladys Wallace and Lola Hawthorne; and brother, John Staley.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Staley; his children, William Scott Staley, Steven Walter Staley, and Judith Ann Nelson; and his grandchildren, Christopher Owen Nelson, Joshua Tyler Nelson, and Jacob Michael Dylan Staley.
The family would like to thank Brookdale In-Home Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in his final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a service at Olinger Crown Hill (Serenity Pointe Chapel) on June 24, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. An interment will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
