Bill Moore was born in Fredonia, Kansas, September 2, 1924, the son of Adelbert Lee and Addie Moore. He grew up in Fredonia, graduating from Fredonia High School in 1942. After graduation, he got a summer job building the Heart Mountain Relocation Camp near Cody, Wyoming. When he returned home, he studied engineering at Kansas State College for one semester, but then, due to WWII, entered the Army at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
The Army trained Bill at Camp McCain, Mississippi, and sent him for further training at the University of Georgia in Athens. After an amphibious landing at Cherbourg, France, in September 1944, he served as a combat engineer in the 145th Field Artillery Unit of the 10th Armored Division in the Ardennes Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge. He witnessed General Patton on a tank during the Victory Parade in Garmisch-Partenkirchen May 1945.
Bill attended Colorado University in Boulder starting in 1946 and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. During that time, on June 15, 1947, he married Bernadean Louise Gibson, whom he had met in high school. In Bill’s career as a registered Professional Engineer, heating system design, he worked for several companies starting with Thermal Engineering Company in Salt Lake City, Utah, from 1949-1952. (His first two of three children, Robert and Pamela, were born there.) Moving back to Denver, Bill worked for Harvey Almstead, National Radiator, and then the Crane Company. From 1961-1962, his family moved to Chicago where he worked for Walker Pacific. Back to Denver, he started Moore Thermo Sales, representing Weil McLain, Patterson Kelly, and Filtrine, designing heating and plumbing systems. In 1965, his company merged with Engineered Products Company, representing over 20 manufacturers of boilers and related hot water heating systems. During this time, Bill’s family lived in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, where his daughter, Melinda, was born. He retired in 1991. Bill remained active for many years in the Western Chapter, 10th Armored Division Veterans, and with the Center for the Study of War Experience at Regis University. In 2002, he and Bernadean planned and hosted, with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, a reunion of his chapter of 10th Armored Division veterans at Fort Carson.
His wife, Bernadean, preceded him in death in 2010 after almost 63 years of marriage. Bill is survived by his son, Robert Moore (Kathy); two daughters, Pamela Mickle (Francis) and Melinda Gale (Byron); two granddaughters, Margaret Moore (Travis) and Skylar Gale; four grandsons, Quentin Moore (Karen), Jonathan Moore (Lisa), Kevin Mickle (Katrina), and Ryan Gale; one great granddaughter, Kayla Mickle, and two great grandsons, Jeffery Mickle and Finn Moore. He also has many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at the Pavilion of Reflection in Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery, 7777 W. 29th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Saturday, February 23, at 2 PM. Viewing at Crown Hill on Friday, February 22, from 5-8 PM.
