I have thought of you often the last several weeks and wonder how you are doing.  It must be so difficult to lose a child.  I pray that God's peace is on you, especially on this day, the one year anniversary of his passing.  I have thought of him often and will continue to pray for you and yours every October 13th. I'm not sure I told you that the Lakes PTO not only made a plaque in honor of Alex (which I have placed in my room), but they also donated a parachute to the music room which is embroidered with the words "In Musical Memory of Mr. A 1992 - 2014".  :-)

Wanted you to know that Alex is still in the hearts of Lakes Elementary. He touched so many hearts in the short time he was here. My prayers are with you still and hope that you find comfort in our thoughts.

I have been looking through some pictures from when the kids were little and I found this one Carol and Joe.  It's from 1997.  Look how cute!  They were on our back deck.  Thought you'd like this. One time I had just gotten publicly torn apart by a professor. Alex came up to me after and said, "Ya know, he wouldn't push us so hard if he didn't think we had a lot of potential." His timing was impeccable—it always was. He will always be missed.

After 30 years of teaching, one might think all the students would blur together a little, maybe they would be forgotten...but no! I had the extreme privilege of having Alex Aninos in my 4th grade class and his precious face, his sweet demeanor, his wonderful presence, have never left my memory.  He stands out as one of the really truly special kids in my teaching life. I am heartbroken now because he was poised to do so many things in the world.  With his incredible family upbringing and excellence throughout his school career, Alex had the world in his hands. 

I remember that year, 2001-2002, because our class had so much fun together, we were a team. I had just lost my husband, Tony, so this school year I poured myself even more into my kids. They were everything to me.  From building the light-up electrical bridges and lighthouses, to making Native American clothespin dolls, acting in plays, celebrating our heritage with 'Holidays Around the World', to crazy Halloween and Valentine parties...what fun we had! Our little guinea pig family and Flopsie the lop-eared rabbit rounded out our school family.  But most memorable to me was the Silent Auction event when Alex's family and Regan Parmentier's family bid on "A Day with Mrs. Sevakis"  a Saturday to make crafts, have lunch, build a bonfire at my house... Alex & Regan "won" the bid and we had the most awesomely cool day, the Aninos brothers and the Parmentier brothers and me!  I'll never forget how boys wanted to spend time with their teacher on a warm Saturday in May, I was so honored.
  
To know Alex was planning to become a teacher touches me deeply.  He would have been such a tremendous role model for the young with his laid-back, quiet, supportive style. I have to believe that the elementary days at Commerce helped to inspire him into becoming an educator.  

I will remember Alex Aninos as one of my most cherished students ever.  Even though he hated to have his picture taken, I will remember that little gleam in his eye and crooked smile.  Even then, Alex liked to stand at the side, cheering others.  What a teacher he has always been.  

My heart cries with your family, Alex. You will never be forgotten.

There are so many memories over so many years it is hard to focus on just one. I think the most fun ones were from cub scouts, popcorn sales,pinewood derbies, the submarine and the best were camping. We all had so much fun together. I always felt like I had more than my two sons, I had Alex, Arik and Matt too. You are family to us and we are always here for you. All our thoughts are with you, Love, John, Lisa, Tanner and Regan Parmentier.

This is a time when words don't seem to be enough.  I  certainly can't find the right ones.  I am certain though that the strength I saw between all of you yesterday at Alex's viewing will help you get through each day. Alex you where a great friend and teacher you brought happiness in to the life's of everyone you came in contact with . you put others before yourself and inspired others to do so as well . I remember growing up with you in cub scouts and boy scouts and one camping trip stands out from most of them. The trip was to lost lake me and you shared a tent and not once but twice during the week we where there our tent flooded and you where upset but you where determined not to let that ruin the trip and you did your best to make the trip fun I will always remember you for your determination and kindness towards others you will be greatly missed but never forgotten old friend my prays go out to you and your family

Alex, when you were 10, you made my life just that much brighter. Always so kind, giving, and let's not forget funny! Twelve years later, you had grown into the kind of man any parent would be proud to claim. Your students and campers alike all adored you. Simply adored. But then again, how could they help it? ... I have questioned the justice; asked why. But your mom is right. You're teaching the little angels in heaven how to make music. And you're doing a damned good job.

Sending Our sincerest condolences, Lots of love and prayers.

It is impossible to imagine what the Aninos family is going through right now. Alex was an incredible and kind human being, an amazing saxophonist, an inspiring teacher, a role model, and a friend and brother to many of us. The saxophone studio at Grand Valley has lost a crucial member of their family. I am blessed to have known him, even though my time with him was far too short. He will be missed by all who knew him, but he will never be forgotten. Al, you have impacted my life and the lives of others in so many ways. I will carry all the things you have taught me throughout my life and my career. There will never be enough words to say about this horrible tragedy, but I know that Alex would have wanted us all to keep living out our dreams and working our hardest at everything we strive to accomplish. My heart goes out to the Aninos family for this unfortunate loss and I will keep them all in my prayers. Rest in Peace, Al. We love you and miss you very much.

Hey lil cuz, Well we shared the same birthday only nine years apart, I always thought that was pretty cool! You had many accomplishments and achieved the level of expertise through it all, and I'm saying that with great admiration. I remember back when you where as young as five, you were nothing short of a little Einstein, you possessed a great mind and it never failed you throughout the years. God Bless you little buddy. Oh cousin! You will be missed but peace will come to those that remember you in times of need. You are an angel now! I love you and will remember laughing together, loving music, and appreciating the outdoors. Long live the lessons you lived to teach, your wisdom precious. I know you're one with God now. Please bring us peace, Alexander, as we miss you! Your presence will continue to be honorably cherished.

I have known this young man and his family for most of his life, from a little boy in cub scouts to the terrific man he grew up to be. Leader, mentor, moral compass, warm smile, great listener, these are just a few thoughts that come to mind when describing Alex. I always loved how he put others first, made them feel comfortable and listened with the heart of an angel. When you look at his short life he built an amazing legacy, a legacy most of us couldn't match in one hundred years let alone twenty two. I pray for the family, Joe, Carol, Arik. I can't even begin to imagine the pain all of your family is going through at this time. Alex went to school with my daughter, Kathleen from Kindergarten thru graduation. One of the first things she said about Alex when she heard the news was how he was always kind to her no matter what. And what a good person he was. I also remember Alex from all those years. He was always caring and considerate of others. And during our WLNMB years Alex could be counted on to quietly lead others and contribute to the team effort always in a positive way. May your warm memories and the love of family and friends support you all in this very difficult time. Praying for you all.

I'll always remember the times spent with my cousins Alex and Arik because they are all good memories, although we grew up far apart in are younger years when we got too see each other we all took full advantage, fishing, sleading, gameboy color, swimming, football, we did it all an we where attached at the hip when ever we where together. You made it along way in a short time an touched many lives on the way you inspired an taught what what you loved to our next generation an had a truly beautiful hart.  I wish I could of had more memories in our older years an even though it was a simple Facebook status the last time we talked it now means more then I ever knew it would. We all know your looking down smiling on us now. Rest in peace old friend....

I am still shocked, in disbelief, and deeply sorrowed about Alex. He was an incredible individual with more passion and drive than I have seen in anyone. I have learned more from him than he will ever know and will always carry it with me. He has touched so many countless lives and he will live in all of them, especially in his family and friends. Even though he may not be here, he will remain with us in spirit. I hope that he has found a special kind of happiness that is unachievable here in this life. He, beyond reason, deserves it. My heart and thoughts go out to his family during this very difficult time of sorrow. I will never forget you, Alex.

To Joe, Carol, and Arik, I am so unbelievably sorry about Alex.  I have such vivid and wonderful memories of our time together as children and it breaks my heart that he is gone.  You are all in both mine and my family's thoughts and prayers.

Alex was my lacrosse coach at hudsonville for 2-3 years and he was the one that made me love lacrosse. He was an amazing coach and player as well as a person and I'll never forget how he impacted me. I'll miss him

Alex was a very bright student and a joy to work with in class.  His determination and resilience were evident in his scholarship and musicianship at GVSU.  He made a positive impact on all who knew him.  Alex will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

Alex was a wonderful man who brought smiles and cheer to whomever he met. He had such great things started...I wish he had a chance to finish and fulfill all of his hopes and dreams. He will be greatly missed by all he came in contact with. God bless him and please help his family through this time.

The world lost a great ambassador of music education, kindness, joy, love, and unconditional friendship this week. Alex affected countless lives at GVSU. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to teach Alex and learn from him as well. Sorely missed, but never forgotten!

Alex was not only an awesome guy but an honest one at that. This is a man that would listen to anything you had to say and whether he liked it or not he would push you to be the best that you could. I had the privilege to play in the Jazz Band with him at GVSU and he was so great at what he did that it was a pleasure always to play with him. I'm gonna miss seeing you Alex. You will always be in my heat bud!

Very sorry for your loss. I've known Alex for the past three years. He was an instructor at our band camp at Walled Lake Western. He was a great guy, always full of energy and had something nice to say. Prayers go to Alex's family.

I've had the pleasure of knowing Alex for a majority of my life, and with his passing I'm at a loss for words. Alex has always had a zest for life that is hard to come by. His passion and kindness shined! He was a wonderful young man, and I'm honored I was able to call him my friend. He was clearly so well loved and admired, and I have no doubt that will prevail in his memory. The entire Aninos family is in my thoughts.

I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, have friends who teach and study at GVSU and I know a few parents in the Rockford system.  Aninos family:  thank you for "lending" your son to West Michigan for the last four years.  He has done wonderful things and has left a great legacy.  Your family will be in my prayers for some time to come.  The loss of Alex is a tragedy for all of us, as he represented everything that is desirable in a teacher.  We need teachers of his caliber today more than ever.

Our hearts are breaking over the sudden loss of such an outstanding young man. Our hope is that in time, the memory of his kindness, warmth and passion for life supercedes  the feeling of great sadness that is in the hearts of so many today.

My heart is broken by the loss of Alex. He was my best friends first love for so many years. He was always the sweetest kid and had such a big heart. Since Kayla and I said we were sisters, I always called you my "brother". Rest in paradise Alex!

I never knew Alex super well but, from 6th-12th grade, our lockers were always next to each other and we always got seated near each other as my maiden name is Andrews, he was always so quiet but once he started to talk, he was the absolute sweetest. It's incredibly difficult to see yet another classmate pass so tragically. My prayers and love go out to his entire family during this time.

Alex helped me through my classes and always reminded me not to take class, or myself too seriously. He showed extreme kindness to everyone who crossed his path. I will continue to pray for Alex and his family.  I know what is in store for him next will be far greater than anything this life has to offer.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Alex's family. I work at Lakes and he was always so friendly. My 5th grade daughter Emma also had him for music and always told me how nice he was and how great he played the saxophone. He will now be playing in Gods band.  Rest in Peace Alex.

We are so sorry to hear about your loss. My son Andrew had your son as an assistant 2nd grade Music Teacher at OLC. Although I didn't know your son my little Andrew spoke sweetly of him. He told me today that your son was an awesome teacher and he will miss him. He also said he wants to play an instrument just like Alex. This was the first time he expressed any interest in doing so. Our thoughts and prayers are with you today and all of the days ahead.

Alex was truly an amazing friend who cared about others. He put everyone before himself and was always encouraging those to be true to themselves and follow their dreams. Alex has been a great friend of mine since high school but most recently he became a best friend of mine this past summer and I am so grateful for that. We grabbed food and drinks together and talked a lot about living in the moment and appreciating every aspect of life. He made me realize that every moment is special and valuable. He believed in me and encouraged me to continue following my passions. I will miss him dearly and he will always have a place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers go out to Arik, Mr. and Mrs. Aninos, family and friends. May he rest in paradise!

To the Family of Alex Aninos, We are so, so sorry for your loss. Our youngest daughter Emily was so saddened to learn about Alex's passing. She has always enjoyed music classes at Lakes Elementary and she told us what a "nice" and "great" teacher Alex was. I was impressed by an introductory e-mail that he sent out to the parents of the students. In the only conversation we ever had with him, he immediately came across as passionate about both music and teaching: and at Lakes, the teaching staff is amazing so it's no surprise to us that he made such a large impression in such a small amount of time. We will be keeping you and Alex's other loved ones in our prayers as you go through this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of knowing Alex during his days at WL Northern while he was in the marching band.  I also had the pleasure of working along side of him as an instructor at the WL Western Marching Band Camps.  He was a smart, caring, talented, and always-smiling young man.  My daughter attends GVSU and was in the marching band with him.  He was always so kind to her.  So many great memories of Alex.  He will be missed by many, including us.  We send our heartfelt sympathies and prayers of comfort to his family and friends.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. My son Jack was in one of his music classes at Lakes Elementary. Even in the short few weeks Jack knew him he always spoke so highly of him. He came home a few weeks ago and told me about his awesome new music teacher. He told me he wants to play the saxophone one day just like Mr. Aninos.

You are one of the greatest guys I've ever been privileged to know. You helped me start the box lacrosse team at GVSU, and without you, it would have never happened. You coached with me at Hudsonville, and your love of teaching and ambition to help others will always be engraved in my life. I love you man, and I look forward to seeing you again someday.

My son is a graduate of Walled Lake Northern and a student at GVSU. Although I didn't know Alex I am just heartbroken for the family.  Please know your family will be in our hearts and prayers.  We are so sorry for your loss.

Alex was an amazing young man. While dating Kayla my entire family really got to know him and all loved him. We were always so impressed with his manners and willingness to help others without being asked, he just offered and pitched in. I send my love to his family, this has touched my entire family as well and we are all in disbelief, the world has lost an amazing man.,,,,I will always remember him and my husband building our deck on a hot summer day and the smile he had when he saw that I had fudgesicles!!!We will never forget you Alex.

I remember Alex in my 5th grade class with fondness and wish to extend my sympathies to all of his friends and family.  He was a very wonderful 5th grader, who grew up to be a pretty wonderful man.

My deepest condolences to your family at this difficult time.  Alex was my teacher assistant at Lakes, Our Lady of Consolation and Assumption schools in Rockford.  He was extremely talented and the kids loved it when he shared his saxophone skills and stories of what music was like for him as a kid and as an adult in college.  He will be missed by so many.  God's comfort and strength to you all.

I knew Alex... He was the best of the best....always smiling...loved his cute smile.  He will be missed by many, as will my Grandaughter , she loved him.  We will remember how talented he was . You will never be forgotten Alex.
