Born in Detroit, Michigan, Barbara attended Dominican High School before earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Detroit. It was there that she met the love of her life, Raymond Francis.
Barbara and Ray later made their home in White Lake, Michigan, where they raised their five children and built a life centered on family, friendship, faith, and community. Their home became the heart of countless gatherings, celebrations, holidays, and everyday moments — always full of laughter, conversation, and activity.
A lifelong learner, Barbara possessed a deep curiosity about the world and an enduring love of reading. Her intellect, thoughtfulness, and sense of humor were among the many qualities that made her both deeply admired and dearly loved.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Raymond Francis, and her cherished granddaughter, Claire Marie Mattack.
She is survived by her five children and thirteen grandchildren: Michael (Berit) Francis of Orono, Minnesota; Susanne (Casey) Day of Sylvan Lake, Michigan; Anne (Jeff) Mattack of Charlevoix, Michigan; Mark (Kelly) Francis of Pleasanton, California; and Matthew (Carie) Francis of White Lake, Michigan.
She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: Evan, Carter, Crosbie, and Marit Francis; Maxwell Day; Michael, Madison, and Carly Mattack; Avery and Riley Francis; and Kattarina and Cody Francis.
The family will host a memorial service for family and friends at a later date.
The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Independence Village of White Lake, especially Cody and Rob, for the kindness, care, and companionship they provided Barbara in her final years.
