Betty Eleanor Slingerland, of White Lake, Michigan, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family and friends, joined hands with the Lord on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Betty showed unparalleled strength as she fought lung cancer.
Born in Highland Park, Michigan, December 3, 1948, to Clifford and Mary Wrathell, she touched the lives of countless individuals as a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She lived a life of service, passion, and purpose.
Betty is survived by her husband of forty-six years, Wesley Hampton Slingerland, Sr., her children Tami, Jeannie, Wesley, and Paula and their spouses, seventeen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews. Upon her passing, she was welcomed into the arms of her mother, Mary, and her siblings Clayton and Jeannie.
The impact that she made on her family, friends, and this world is indescribable and her presence will be monumentally missed. The love, kindness, and selflessness that she brought to all whom she encountered will be her legacy.
Behold, we know not anything;
I can but trust that good shall fall
At last—far off—at last, to all,
And every winter change to spring.
So runs my dream: but what am I?
An infant crying in the night:
An infant crying for the light:
And with no language but a cry.
―Alfred Tennyson,In Memoriam
