Clarence Lexington Arnold, Jr. born January 1, 1942 (1st baby born that year) in Knoxville, Tennessee to parents Clarence Lexington Arnold, Sr. and Ernestine Achoe Arnold. The family moved from Tennessee to Los Angeles when Clarence was still in elementary school. Clarence graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1960. After graduation, he attended LA Trade Technical School and was an Automotive Mechanic before serving in Vietnam (1965-1966). While in Vietnam he received various service medals and sharp shooter status. He graduated from California State University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts in Vocational Education and two Master Degrees in Education from Pepperdine University in 1973 and 1974. Additionally, Clarence held a lifelong teaching credential in vocational education and a pilot license.
Clarence held many professional positions during his working years: 10 years with Los Angeles Unified School District where he was an automotive instructor and district wide consultant for vocational education; 22 years with General Motors Corporation where he held various managerial positions in technical training, where he gave "Mr. Good Wrench" a run for his money. After retiring from GM, he returned to public school education and worked for Detroit Public Schools and Waterford Public Schools for 3 years. It was no surprise that after retirement, Clarence spent a lot of his spare time as a car enthusiast. He spent lots of his time attending car shows, car races, street rodding and just plain "looky looing".
He was ushered into the presence of God whom he loved and served on June 19, 2021 (the first national holiday of Juneteenth) by the merciful angel of death. His homegoing leaves us bereft, but confident that our God makes no mistakes. We shall be re-united with him, and all others whom we have loved and lost, in the great by and by.
Clarence will be truly missed by his surviving wife (Gail) and only son (Frederick) and a host of relatives and friends. Those who loved Clarence will remember his advice and sincere concern for you and your success in life.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 25, 2021 at the Union Lake Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 1233 Union Lake Road in White Lake. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00am until the time of the service at 11:00am. Committal services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Great Lakes National Cemetery under the auspices of the United States Army.
