

Daniel “Vic” LaPorte, age 79, of White Lake; passed away peacefully at home on November 7, 2010, with his family by his side. Mr. LaPorte was drafted into the Army after graduating high school, where he proudly served during the Korean War era. After his duty of service, he graduated from the police academy, became a Detroit police officer, and after 33-years of service, retired in 1987 from the Detroit Police Department as a Detective Sergeant. He also served as Commerce Township Ordinance Officer from 1988 – 1993. He was known to many as “Vic”, he will be remembered for his piercing humor and sharp intellect, great love of family, friends and living on the lake. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56-years, Joan (Rzeppa); children Jeff (Janine), Gary (Julie), Alan, David (Kathy), and Michele; grandfather of Victor, Victoria, Ashley, Rachel, Michael, Nathaniel, Gary and Rachelle; great-grandfather of Jacquelyn and William; brother-in-law of Richard (Sharon) Rzeppa; along with many beloved nieces and nephews, relatives, and dear friends. Mr. LaPorte was preceded in death by his sisters Joan and Sally. The Mass of Resurrection will be Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 9086 Hutchins Road, White Lake. The visitation hours will be Tuesday from 2 until 8 p.m. with a scripture service at 6 p.m. at the Union Lake Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 1233 Union Lake Road, White Lake. Mr. LaPorte will lie in state at church from 10 a.m. until Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Juvenile Diabetes Association, Hospice of Michigan or American Lung Association.
