Beloved wife of the late Donald E. Schuitema. Loving mother of Kurt (Kathi) Schuitema, Kathy (the late Jon) Barber, and the late Kevin Schuitema. Proud grandmother of Jeffrey (Logan) Schuitema, Lee (Rep) Penny, Samantha (Daniel) Schuitema-Weathers, Shane Schuitema, and Gabe Barber. She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews. Mae is the Sister and Sister-in-law of the late Katherine (Hap) Karel, Margaret (Art) Eggerding, Pauline (Chet) Steele, Barney (Phyllis) Barnes, Mike (Betty) Barnes, Joan (Chic) Vander Hoff-Quakkelaar, Valerie Schuitema, Joe Schuitema, and Al (Gerri) Schuitema. She is also preceded in death by her parents Volkert and Ella Barnes-Huizen, and Mother-in-law and Father-in-law, Chris and Maude DeHamer.
Mae loved and adored her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she liked to garden, spend time with her family, and always wanted to help others. She was a board member at the Heritage Park Condominium, active in the Wyoming Park Boosters, and a long-time member of 8th Reformed Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 15, at 10:30 at 8th Reformed Church. 841 Burton Street SW, Wyoming, MI 49509.
