

George Guerino Caliaro, age 78, of Hermansville, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. George was the loving and devoted husband of the late Joan Caliaro for over 52 years. Kindhearted and strong father of Barb (the late Walter) and Paty (Lance); loving grandfather of Alexandria (Eric), Sawyer (Cait), and Zachary; brother to the late Gloria (Bill), Elaine (Frank), and Bob (Kathy). He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; his parents, Carlo and Mary; his son-in-law, Walter; and his sister, Gloria.
George was born May 12, 1943, in Hermansville, Michigan, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Carlo and Mary (Marana) Caliaro. George worked on the Soo Line/Wisconsin Central railroad for 27 years. George had many hobbies over the years. His favorites were hunting, woodworking, and pigeon racing. A Green Bay Packers and North Central Jets sports fan, whenever there was a game to go to or watch, he was there.
George will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends. His storytelling, sense of humor, drive, and overall positive can-do attitude leaves us all with the best memories and lessons on how to live life. Over the last three years, his nurses and physical therapy teams enjoyed working with him and all described him as a “ray of sunshine”. He made everyone’s day a little brighter.
In accordance with George’s wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service and celebration will be held at St. John Newman Catholic Church in Hermansville in the spring. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions in George's memory to the Recovery Project and Parkhill Foundation, an organization that George and his family hold dear. The work done by the Recovery Project has an incredibly positive impact on the lives of individuals affected by spinal cord injuries and other conditions that affect the nervous system.
