Lillian "Lil" "Lilly" "Diamond Lil" Lloyd, a beacon of strength and adventure, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, at her home in Westland, Michigan, at the age of 95. Born on May 21, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, Lillian's vibrant spirit and zest for life left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Lillian was the beloved wife of her first husband, Clarence Taratuta, who preceded her in death in 1991, and her second husband, George Lloyd, who passed away in 1988. She was the loving mother of Sherry Pell, Sandy (the late Pat) Mann, and Steve (Kathleen) Lloyd. She was also the proud mother of the late Sue Safiedine, whose husband Jim continues to honor Lillian's memory. Cherished grandmother of Gaery Pell, Justin (Michele) Mann, Najah (Michael) Awada, Amar Safiedine, Jared Mann, and Sahar Safiedine. Lillian was also a doting great-grandmother to Nasya, Nayel, and Maya Awada, as well as Andrew, Annissa, and Alanna. Her legacy extends to numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends and family members who felt her love and generosity.
After graduating from high school, Lillian began a career that would see her serve the City of Detroit with dedication, first with the Detroit Police Department and later in Parking Enforcement. Her work ethic and commitment to her community were unwavering, reflecting the values she held dear throughout her life.
Lillian's faith in Judaism was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and imbuing her with a sense of purpose and compassion. She found joy in her many interests and associations, including her active membership in The Red Hat Society's Flint Chapter, her volunteer work at the Taylor Veteran's Museum and Taylor Library, and her spirited participation in The Motor Maids motorcycle club and The Retreads Motor Cycle Club.
An avid motorcyclist, Lillian's love for the open road was legendary. She owned a range of motorcycles, including a 1957 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic with a sidecar, a Honda 350, and a Honda CBR 900 sport bike. Her adventures on two wheels took her across the continental United States, creating memories and stories that she would share with a sparkle in her eyes. Lillian's fearlessness was evident, whether she was extinguishing a match tossed into her Harley's gas tank or standing up to would-be thieves with unshakable resolve.
Lillian's resilience and independence were matched by her loving nature. She delighted in reading to children, roller skating with skill, and playing the accordion. Her retirement at 62 allowed her to devote herself to her family, beginning with caring for her first granddaughter, Najah. She stood as a guardian for her fellow bikers, advocating for safety and helmets, and her bravery was as unquestionable as her heart was kind.
In the words of Helen Keller, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." Lillian embodied this sentiment, living a life filled with love, adventure, and courage. She was a strong and independent woman who inspired those around her to embrace life's challenges with grace and tenacity.
Lillian's story is not simply one of the years she lived but of the lives she touched. She adopted her daughter Sherry's two cats and a dog, showcasing her nurturing spirit. Lillian was always present when needed, a pillar of strength and love for her family and friends.
As we bid farewell to Lillian Lloyd, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by bravery, love, and an unquenchable thirst for adventure.
