

JACOBSON, MARTINA "MARTY", passed away Saturday, Jan. 21 after a long illness. She was born Nov. 7, 1931 in Detroit to Harold and Irene Whalen. She is survived by daughter Julie (Jake) Jacobson-Hines of Waterford; sister Maureen Meagher of Fort Wayne, Ind.; grandson Jeffrey Jacobson of Northville; niece Jamie Liechty of Fort Wayne, Ind.; nephews Timothy Meagher of St. Clair, Jim Meagher of Chicago and Patrick of Forest Falls, California. She was pre-deceased by husband Bill "Jake" Jacobson; and sons Jeff and John. She graduated from Immaculata High School and sang with the "Don Large Chorus," on WJR live radio broadcasts in the 1940s. She became a typist at GM, and met her future husband, "Jake," who had just returned from serving in the Marines in WWII. They married and bought one of the first houses in a new subdivision in Livonia. She and her husband were founding members of St. Edith Catholic Church. They did much volunteer work. She received her teaching degree from Madonna College and taught third grade for 23 years at the former Our Lady of Loretto Catholic School in Redford. She received outstanding care at Estabrooks Havencrest in White Lake.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Parish, 9086 Hutchins Road (corner of Union Lake Road) White Lake Township, MI, 48386. A Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Meagher at 11 a.m., with a luncheon afterward.
