Mary Patricia Barrett Oehninger died in hospice of breast cancer in Switzerland on Tues., July 24. She was 54. Mary was born and raised in Detroit and Southfield, MI. She received a BA from the University of Michigan and a Teaching Certificate in English Language from Cambridge University. She worked for Saks Fifth Avenue in Chicago and San Diego, which is where she met her future husband. They married in 1989 and moved to Switzerland. She then worked in a private bank and later taught English as a Second Language. She is survived by her husband Rudolf and children Claire and John of Birmensdorf, Switzerland. She is also survived by her siblings Michael, John, Judy, and Kathleen Barrett. A visitation will be held on Fri., Aug. 10 from 6:00-9:00 pm at Elton Black Funeral Home in White Lake, MI. A second visitation will be held on Sat., Aug. 11 from 10:00-11:00 am at St. Patricks Catholic Church in White Lake, MI.. followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary's memory to the American Cancer Society, 2808 Reading Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45206.
