When I was growing up, I always respected my Dad and loved him and was thankful that he provided for us; but I never really knew him that well.  He was busy working and providing for his family.  But as an adult, I grew closer to him and I feel that he opened up so much more to all of us, and he could talk to us for hours.
 When I feel the closest to Dad is when I am trimming hedges and shrubs in the garden.  For years, I have helped to maintain all the landscape and gardens at Ma and Dad's.  Whenever I trimmed the shrubs, Dad was always right there with me, either watching me, helping me, or telling me how much to trim.  The last time he was with me trimming hedges was just two weeks before he died; and for the first time, he was unable to physically help me,  but he still sat next to me and watched me the whole time. I will cherish that time I had with him forever. Now whenever I work in my own garden trimming hedges, I think of him, and it brings tears to my eyes. This is when I miss him the most.
Dad was  a good man, a good husband, a good father, and a good grandfather. I am thankful for all the love he gave all of us.

Hi Grandpa,

How's the weather up there?  I'm sure it's about 80, sunny and not a cloud in the sky.

When I spoke at the service, I wanted to talk about all the things that I've learned from you throughout my life.  But I froze a little.  Since then, I've been going over it in my head and every time I do, I come up with another thing I've learned or another reason why I am a better person because of you.  The strength that you showed us, even up to your very last days, should be an inspiration to us all.

I know you are in a better place now but it's hard to imagine a better place than the one you've created for all of us down here.  I miss you and I know that you miss us.

Dear Grandpa,

You have gone away to another place – a place that I envision for you is beautiful, sunny, warm, peaceful, has closets full of shirts with front pockets, well-managed Tiger games are always on, there is an unlimited supply of ice cream and cookies, steak is cooked to perfection, vegetables never come in pairs, and where you are surrounded by all of the happy memories you have had with family and friends.

Thank you for all of the french toast breakfasts, spaghetti dinners, fresh-baked cookies, hugs, imparted wisdom, and love.  Thank you for providing your grandkids with the best grandpa any of us could have asked for – full of laughter, stories, encouragement, and support.  I hope I can carry forward the dedication and love you have shown to us with my own grandkids someday.

I miss you and I know you are in your own paradise right now, waiting for all of us to be together again someday.

I feel so lucky to have come into my Dad's life and his amazing family, the family that you and Grandma built.  You both have always shown your dedication and devotion to your family, a lesson that I will never forget.  

Thank you for all that you have done for me over the years, from your big bear hugs, attending school events/graduation, letting me borrow your car when I needed one, giving me stuff I needed for the house when I was a new homeowner, hosting great parties for the family over the years, to raising my father to be a great man, and teaching me life lessons.. (I'll try to keep the gas tank at least half full during the Winter).  You had a lot of love to give and you showed it to us all through your actions.

I am sad you are gone and I will miss you, but I know you are in a good place.  I love you.

Grandpa,

It's difficult to put into words how lucky we all were to have you in our lives. Not many people can take care of eight children and over twenty grandchildren - not to mention do it well.

You were always there for us, whether it was for a birthday, graduation, some other event to show your support or simply to talk on the phone. You taught us all to respect others, work hard and not take anything for granted, and also taught us to have fun with what we were doing.

One of my favorite memories of you is the weekend that I was able to spend with you and Grandma in Florida. It was great to spend time with you one on one and get to know you so much better. And I can't forget how nice it was to FINALLY have someone agree with me when I said I didn't like milk!

I know I speak for everyone when I say I'll miss you, Grandpa. I hope you're eating all the ice cream you want up there!

When I was younger and we used to go over to grandma and grandpas to visit, I would always try to keep my mouth shut, literally. Why? Because grandpa LOVED to pull teeth, and for some reason mine were always "loose and ready to come out", according to grandpa. Luckily, once I reached a certain age, I didn't have any more loose teeth, so I could show grandpa my big smile, worry free. Even with the fear that I would be getting my teeth pulled, I always loved seeing grandma and grandpa. He had the biggest hugs to give, and I always felt so loved every time we went to visit.  
Grandpa is someone that I've always looked up to. I will never forget some of the most important things grandpa taught me: restaurants will never live up to home cooked meals, politicians today are always corrupt, and if you work hard enough, you can build a beautiful life for you and your family.  
It's sad to see someone go, especially one who was such a strong and caring man, one who has done so much for others and asked for nothing in return. I love you, Grandpa. You're in a better place now. Rest in peace.

For many years, you shared the role of father in my life, and for almost as many more years, you were the only father I had. For all of those years I want to thank you for your love and support. I also want to thank you for one of the most precious gifts in my life, my husband. 

All of Danny's best qualities he has learned from you. He is honest, fair and loyal almost to a fault. He loves his family and is always there when the girls and I need his strength and guidance. And we know that many times when he comes across as gruff or angry he is actually showing us how much he cares. He has been my rock, just as you have been Ma's rock for sixty years.

The love and devotion you gave to all of us will sweeten our memories for the rest of our lives. May God bless and keep you.

When Dad found out he didn't have long to live I never saw him feel sorry for himself or ask to be treated any differently.  Instead he had the house painted.  It needed to be done and it would be one less thing Ma would have to worry about.  Even in his final weeks he showed by example what it meant to be a husband, and a man.  It's how he lived his life.  I'm going to miss you Dad.

I am so lucky to have so many wonderful memories of my Grandpa, both in Michigan and in Florida.  What I loved the most was seeing the way Grandpa lit up when he would see my boys.  They sure did love their Great Grandpa too!  Just recently, Hunter learned that he could run from their kitchen, into the living room, around the coffee table and back into the kitchen.  Every time, he would make a pit stop and give Great Grandpa a hug.  And Brady always seemed to find a comfy spot in Great Grandpa's arms to take a snooze.  Nobody could perfect the football hold quite like Great Grandpa.  We promise that as Hunter and Brady grow up, they will always remember, and continue to hear stories about their Great Grandpa.

When I was in High School I had an assignment to interview a family member.  I chose to interview Grandpa.  After a few questions he stopped and said "these questions are stupid, ask your Grandma instead."  So I did and I found out that Grandma was much better to interview than Grandpa.  She was so happy to tell me about how they had met and that just a few days after, she knew that he was the man that she was going to marry.  Ever since that day Grandma has been by Grandpa's side and they have loved each other so much.  Even in Grandpa's final moments, Grandma would not leave his side.  The love that you two had for each other is what I will always remember.  I love you Grandpa and although I will miss you tremendously, your love will live through us all.

As neighbors could there be any better than the Morellis? Surely not! I fondly remember the times spent  next door and all the special celebrations with Mr. Morelli. His laugh and his smile. I always felt part of the family. My parents, Mitch and Alice Battel always treasured their friendship with Mike and Florence. Mr. Morelli will be forever missed and my prayers go out to the wonderful family he leaves behind. I know he has many dear friends where he is now and one very special neighbor sitting by his side. I remember the first time I met you & Flo in Florida at the Cafe on the beach. Jeremy & Tina were dating. You chopped up your eggs, potatoes and toast and mixed them all together. I've eaten mine that way ever since and I always think of you. 
Thank you for leaving behind such an amazing family and so many blessings. We'll miss you but we'll see a you in the baby boys always.
