

Sophie Barcewicz April 10, 1925 – March 22, 2025 Beloved aunt of Cheryl Barcewicz, Steve (Suzanne) Barcewicz, Janet (John) Stum, Carolyn (Steve) Hjelle, Great aunt to: Shauna (James) Hitchcock, Stephanie (Michael) Gordon, Briana Benge (Grace Muller), Spencer (Brooklyn) Barcewicz 9 great-great nieces & nephews. Sophie was predeceased by her parents, Victor and Serafina, brothers and sisters Anthony, Jane, Reggie, Frank (Barbara). Sophie was born in Detroit, Michigan as the daughter of Polish immigrants. She was the 3rd of 5 children. She was a devout Catholic who attended Mass regularly and joyfully volunteered at St. Stanislaw, St. Bartholomew, and St. Anastasia in Troy. Sophie was a member of the church sodality, a humble minister of the Eucharist, and worked on maintaining and decorating the church altar. She had a very strong and deep faith. Sophie was also a “gray lady” (a volunteer nursing aid) at Saint Francis Hospital. She was an intelligent woman who graduated from high school with honors at 16 years old. She got a job at GM in the typing pool and worked her way up to the position of executive secretary to the vice president of employee benefits. She retired after 39 years of service. She was a loving, caring, generous woman who always put the needs of others before her own. Her many hobbies included skiing, bowling (which included many trophies), the family photographer, and traveling all over the US and many other countries, including Poland which she was very proud and shared many Polish family traditions. Sophie’s Cool Whip cheesecake was, without a doubt, a family favorite! She will be missed by many and in our hearts forever. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, April 11th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church (respects to family at 9:30 a.m.), 3700 Commerce Road, Orchard Lake. Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery for family only.
