Tim Rogan Sturm, 67, of Commerce Township, passed away on October 20, 2024. A resident of Commerce Township for 45 years, Tim was known for his unwavering spirit and independence despite facing many challenges throughout his life.
Born with handicaps that he confronted with courage and determination, Tim managed to live independently, caring for himself, his home and his Leader Dog and partner in life Cody with pride. His zest for life was evident in his love for his family and pontoon boating which brought him joy and allowed him to stay connected with Long Lake where he spent many summers at the beach with his cousins, brothers and sister.
Tim’s educational journey began in Ferndale at Taft School and then on to St. Rita School for the Deaf in Cincinnati, Ohio. It then continued at Lahser High School from where he graduated. He didn't stop there and further honed his skills at Oakland Community College and then broadened his horizons at the Helen Keller School for the Deaf and Blind in Rochester, New York. His experiences shaped him into the resilient person he became, inspiring his family and those around him. His education at Helen Keller further developed his computer and technology skills which he really loved and enabled him to stay connected with his friends and family despite his handicaps. He was exceptionally proud of his computer skills and through his training at Helen Keller was able to build his own computer system. He was a warm, loving and caring man who loved talking (through sign language) with his family and friends.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Ruth Anne Sturm; and siblings Maurice Sturm and Jill Snook and his best friend and partner in life...Cody. He is survived by his brother Michael (Barbara) Sturm; nieces and nephrews Jennifer (Jeffrey) Grail, Cynthia (Eric) Hefke, Erik (Shannon) Sturm, and Toni (David) New; and great-nieces and nephews Avery Grail, Devin Grail, Jackson Hefke, Reese Hefke, Kendall Hefke, Brandon New, Lainey New, Griffen New, Anthony Sturm and Trinity Sturm.
