Wayne Neil Herning

Beloved husband of Judith for 63 years. Loving father of Curt Herning, Leslie (Mike) Poulin, Jennifer (Mike) Lang, and Jay (Jennifer) Herning. Treasured grandfather of Madison, Peyton, Tanner, Shane, Savannah, and Landon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Sadly, Wayne is preceded in death by his two brothers: Jay and Jack Herning.

Wayne was a proud Army Veteran who served during the Korean War era.

In 1960, he purchased a cottage in Union Lake and in 1974, he made it his year-round residence. He loved the lake and entertaining his friends on his speed boats and pontoons. In 1998, he purchased a condo in Wedgewood, Florida, where he and his wife spent their winters. After 39 years of dedicated service, he retired from Holland Motors Freight.

Mr. Herning enjoyed bowling and skiing, and had been a member of the Vickers Ski Club. He was also an avid golfer and member of a traveling golf team in Michigan along with Beacon Woods Golf Club in Florida. He liked to travel and was able to visit Hawaii, Alaska, the Canadian Rockies along with several National Parks. He traveled to Las Vegas twice a year and invited many of his friends to join him on his week long vacations.

Wayne loved his family and friends and will be very much missed by all.

Per his wishes, a private ceremony will take place at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
