Billy Joe Varbel, age 95, of Valley Center, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home on April 30, 2025. Born on October 24, 1929, in Healdton, Oklahoma, Bill lived a long and full life marked by service, faith, and a deep love for his family and community.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and later worked as an aircraft mechanic, a career that suited his natural talent for fixing things. He had a lifelong passion for fishing and working on cars, always finding joy in the simple, hands-on work he loved.
A man of strong faith, Bill was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Center, where he served faithfully for decades. He gave his time and heart in many roles — as a deacon, a member of the church choir, and lovingly working in the church nursery. His gentle spirit made him a cherished presence.
He also enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams the Oklahoma Sooners and the Kansas City Chiefs, relaxing with a good western movie with his dog Peanut and playing games with friends and family
Bill is survived by his children: Randy and wife Marsha Varbel, Neil and wife Becky Varbel, Gina Breecher, Melinda and husband Donnie Lacy, and Kevin Varbel. He was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a part of his enduring legacy.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Doris; his daughter, Diane; and son-in-law, Bob Breecher.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9th, at Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Center, Kansas.
Bill will be remembered for his steady faith, loving heart, sense of humor, and dedication to both family and church. His life was a testament to hard work, kindness, and quiet strength — and his memory will be treasured by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations in his memory to Calvary Baptist Church Children's Ministry, 320 N. Sheridan Ave., Valley Center, KS 67147
