

Charles was born and raised in Wyoming on his parents’ ranch in Lander Wyoming.
Charles was a proud member of the USAF as an airplane mechanic. He retired after 21 years of service. He dedicated his second career as the head mechanic for Grandview MO school bus division. He retired after 18 years of service, as his expertise and commitment to safety left a lasting impact on the community. In all of his endeavors Charlie would strive to give 100%.
Known for his magnetic smile and warm personality, Charlie had a unique ability to draw people to him. He made many friends, and if you weren’t a friend, you probably hadn’t met him quite yet. His sweet and gentle demeanor was one of his most endearing traits.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Josephine Girten and Arthur Evans; his first wife, Carolyn Girten; and 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Vicky; his son Russell Girten; stepchildren Dianne Garcia, and Dwight Wilkes; grandchildren Zachary Girten; step-grandchildren, Vanessa Fox, David Garcia, Gregory Garcia, and Austin Wilkes; step-great grandchildren, Mercedes, Ava, Athena, and Sapphire Fox.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Home West, 2929 West 13th Street North, Wichita, KS 67203. A funeral dinner will be held after the service at First Christian Church, 102 N. Main St., Newton, KS 67114.
