Mom there are so many memories of you. You've been gone a year now and are greatly missed as Dad is too. Thank god for memories that make us smile and laugh. I know you and dad are living it up in heaven- together for eternity. Dad quiet as ever with his ornery smile and you running the conversation. I remember how you were always so welcoming to me from the get go when Mike and I started dating-always pushing food on me. You were a great grandma and such a huge help to us- watching the kids and getting them to school. Oh, and taking them to garage sales. I bet everyone of your grandkids could tell some kind of funny story about hitting the garage sales with you.Family was a priority with you. How you loved all those birthday parties. I will always treasure the times we spent together when Mike and Dad were working in Minnesota together and in your later years when we would bring you over to our house.So glad that Coke, country music, and Bernie would still make you smile even towards the end of your life. I will be forever grateful to you and dad for raising Mike to be such a wonderful man- a great husband and father, and for the love you showed me,Dalton, Seth, Josh,and Kalen. I wish that the younger grandkids could have known you and dad more in your healthier days.Thanks for being a  good mom and grandma. Love and miss you and dad. Keep watching over us. Frog

I have so many memories of my life with you, Mom.  Memories of growing up with family vacations, picnics at the park and celebrating birthday's, which are my favorite to this day!  You raised your children to be kind to others and help others, even if it meant sacrificing time with your own family.  You taught me how to be a good mother to my own children and how family should always come first. 
   
I remember in November of 2012 I took you to Johnson's garden center to see an Elvis impersonator, oh to see that look on your face one more time when he started to sing and then when he came to the audience and picked you out of all those other women to dance with him.   We all know that Elvis's music made you happy.

I love to make desserts and I credit that to you.  I always enjoyed helping you bake and especially at Christmas time when we would make all that candy like candy balls, peanut brittle, fudge and so many other sweet desserts.   I have continued the family tradition of your great recipes.   Oreos dunked in milk,  and grilled cheese dunked in tomato soup are a few things that my kids still enjoy doing , as I did as a child and still do today.

My memories of taking  you places when you were unable to drive,  listening to you sing songs that were playing on the radio even though you couldn't remember much of anything else because of your dementia,   you would always asked me to turn it up because you liked that song.  I am so thankful I was able to spend time with you.   Going for a pedicure or getting your hair cut & colored, I know how important it was for you to look your best.  Mom you always said "I can't go anywhere without my hair done and my makeup on, because that's when you run into someone you know."  I miss being able to go to the Q-trip and bringing you a fountain coke, and taking you to lunch.  But the memories I have of you will forever live in my heart.

I know these last few years have been tough for you.  I just hope you know how much I tried to make sure you had the best care and how much you mean to me.  I am thankful God chose me to be your daughter.  I love & miss you Mom.

My sister DorFern was a big part of my life. When I was young she would talk me into doing things which would sometimes get me in trouble. When I had my family we were always at her house. Her home was a place where we alway felt welcome. I love and miss her.

One of my favorite summer memories growing up was our trip to Wichita every year.  We were family, but Mom and Dora Fern were also running buddies, so most of the time we stayed as guests in their home.  I know if mom were alive today, she would write a list of memories a mile long!  As if it were yesterday, I remember the sound of the front screen door slamming as we all ran in and out to play.  The door slam was usually followed by a good yell from Dora, "Stay in or out!"  Being raised without siblings my own age, seemed to make the visits there even more exciting because their house was always busy, and loud, and full of family and babies. And boy did Dora love babies; not just her own, but all babies!  It seems if she wasn't busy with a baby in her arms, she was busy in the kitchen.  She was a good cook.  I always thought she made the best enchiladas!  Most people that cook as much as she did wouldn't be as thin! Her secret must have been from all the running around chasing four kids and more that dropped in!  From her laugh, to the way she sat with her legs crossed and held her cigarette, are memories that are as fresh today as they were over 40 years ago!

We miss Dora and remember the times we would go to Eldorado lake, she was always feeding us and she loved to suntan.  Dora, Sheila, Phyllis, Diane, Dean & I were on a dart team we called "Dean's harem".  We have such good memories of Aunt Dora.

Some of the first memories I have is the fun I always looked forward to whenever Dora and her family would host birthday parties. The kids always had the latest and greatest toys. I always enjoyed watching their home movies when we were little at the Boone family gatherings. I looked forward to watching the kids once in a while when Aunt Dora and Uncle Gerald would go out for the evening and they always paid me well. I remember being with Aunt Dora and Aunt Sheila whenever they would get together in the afternoon for suntanning and soap operas. I also remember a lot of times when she would be in her hair curlers and ironing all afternoon preparing for a big night out. She loved Johnny Cash and she would play his albums on her stereo. She always was so nice offering drinks and trying to feed you when you visited at her house. 
When I was a teenager the families started getting together on holiday weekends camping and Dora and all the ladies in their swimsuits would sit around on their lounge chairs sipping on tea, sunbathing & visiting. We would all pile in the cars and they would take us all to the swimming area and watch us until we had enough and were totally exhausted.
Aunt Dora worked at a carryout just down the street from where she lived and we would stop and have burgers and fries once in a while.  She also worked at Harry Street after school and the summer day care program, so every morning when my son Mark John was out of school in the summer he would go and spend his time while I was at work with Aunt Dora until he was old enough to stay home by himself.
Later in life, I would pick up Aunt Dora and she would bowl with Aunt Phyllis & I  until she became unable to do so safely, she suffered from dementia and it was stealing her sight so we would look up to find her walking and standing out on the greased alley with the ball ready to throw it, we would tell her where she was and she would turn and walk back to safety never once falling.  I also remember a couple of times Mike brought Uncle Gerald in his wheelchair to eat and spend the evening at the bowling alley with us. After the dementia stole her sight almost completely and Uncle Gerald passed she was forced to sell her home and move into twenty four hour care and we would only see her when the Boone family would have special family gatherings and holiday dinners. We would always hug and share loving sentiments, I always loved her dearly.

I will miss her until we meet again in heaven.

You were a very special person to a lot of people. But you were extra special to all of us kids because you were our mom. You and dad were very special parents to have. 

My kids and grandchildren couldn't ask for better grandparents to have than you and dad. We all miss you both very much. They always say "Do you remember when we did this and that at Grandma and Grandpa's house?" We have such good memories of times at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

There isn't a day that goes by that we don't think about you. All though you're no longer with us we think about you everyday. We wish heaven had a phone so we can hear your voice again. You were a loving and caring mom and grandma. We miss all of those special moments we spent with you. Times have been hard not having you here to talk to. It will take a very long time to adjust living life without you. We miss and love you and dad (grandpa) very much. We find comfort knowing you and dad (grandpa) are together again watching over us. You are both missed dearly. Watch over us Until we are all together again.

When I met Don he would talk about his sister Dorfern. I remember thinking what kind of name was Dorfern.  Well I finally met her and everyone called her Dorfern.  She told me my name is DORA Fern, you can just call me Dora. So I did until I had kids, then she became Aunt Dor Dor.  The kids loved her and with good reason.  She always had something special for them.  She was always so excited and happy to see them.  She did love kids!  
I remember one evening I left Amber with Don to go see my grandma in the hospital.  Amber was about 9 months old.  I was gone for a couple of hours.  When I turned the corner onto our street I saw Dora's car in the driveway. I walked in the door just in time to see Aunt Dor Dor picking up Amber and telling her that she sure smelled a lot better.  You guessed it!  Amber had a yucky diaper and Don called his sister, Dorfern, to come over and change her.  It took one phone call and Dora hopped in her car and came right over to change that baby!
Dora and Gerald were always helping someone.    
We lived with them for a while after Amber was born.  We had been living in a camper (which by the way Dora and Gerald loaned to us) and Dora would not have me bring that baby home to the camper.  She took us right home with her.  She taught be how to be a mom. She not only helped me take care of the baby she took care of me too.  I had terrible migraine headaches for about 6 weeks.  Dora took care of me through it all.
She became a good friend, a loving sister, and a second mom all rolled into a wonderful, loving, happy, and caring package. 
Phyllis and Leann would bring Dor Dor to church every Sunday.  After church we would go out to eat.  Every Sunday Don would say, "Dorfern loves her little brother, don't you DorFern?"  She would always laugh and say, "yes, I do love my little brother."
One Sunday, we were leaving church, walking together on the sidewalk talking about what we were going to have for breakfast.  She said, "I want a beer and a cigarette" I said, "Let's get this woman a Coors and a Marlboro."  She said, " you mean a Kool"   Then she looked at and said, "I have no idea why I said that, I don't think I even smoke anymore!" We laughed and laughed. I could go on and on telling you stories and memories of the wonderful woman.  But I will end with this one last story.
One of the last Sunday mornings that she came to church, we were sitting in Village Inn eating breakfast.  She was sitting next to me.  Don, Loretta, Rod, Phyllis, and Leann were talking.  I leaned over to her and asked her if her heart was right with Jesus.  She said yes that it was.  Then she said but can you pray with me just to be sure.  So she repeated after me the prayer of repentance.  She said, "Now I'm ready."  And she was!  
I loved her so much and am so over joyed that she is with the Lord but I do miss her so.
I'll see you someday Dora!

When me & Pete got married, Sheila took us to get the blood test & Dora had the wedding at her house. She took care everything.                       We were living with my mom when Brian was 3 wks. old & she wanted us to move in with them. We lived there 10 mos. I didn't like to "sun bath" with her but I liked to watch the "soaps" with her.                               When Brian was about 3 or 4 we lived 3 blocks away so I would take him & walk to her house to visit & watch the "soaps" with her.                    We were trick or treating a couple of blocks from their house when a jumping, barking dog got Brian on his nose.We hurried over to Dora's.She took off with him to clean it up & see how bad it was. I stayed in the living room, since I don't do well with blood. She came out & said, "I think he needs to go to emergency room." I just said, " Okay, DorFern, anything you say DorFern." Brian says she gave him a tylenol & he just swallowed it before she could get him something to drink.                              She was sitting for Shelly when she was about 5 & I had taken her over to her house. She came running out with a great big smile on her face & said that Pam had her baby. I told her, " I know, April's fool". She convinced me she really did. She was so happy & excited. I hope I never forget that big smile & the pride she had on her face that day.

My aunt Dor dor was a cool aunt and I will miss her dearly well aunt Dor dor I hope u know that your family love's u with all of our hearts and we will  meet someday soon in god we trust

My Aunt Dor Dor, the best of times were always there when Aunt Dor Dor was around . She Even love Her Brother Don , Because he ask her every Sunday. After Uncle Gerald pass away , Mom and I took her to church on Sundays , We had to listen to  Allen Jackson sing gospel music , we wore that CD out. We would try to listen to Elvis gospel , but no she wanted to sing to Allen Jackson. I truly miss her and that big smile . She would always laugh at my stupid sarcastic jokes . I'll never forget the day she pass from this life, I knew in my heart she had left, The heavens open up in a mighty way the thunder and lighting was a mighty show to welcome Aunt Dor Dor . My Aunt Dora was very special to me!!! She was always kind, giving and so much like my mom Sheila!! She is greatly missed, but I know in my heart she is in heaven with my mom laughing and smiling down on us Candy!!! Love and miss her ALWAYS!!!!

My Aunt Dor Dor was a special person in my life.  She would let us swim in her stock tank when we were kids.

Her and Gerald used to watch me.  I had fun at her house playing with her grandson's Dalton and Seth.

My nickname "Tigger" came from Aunt Dora.

My sister Dora was like my second mother.  She was always there for me. I remember when she lived by us and she would comb my hair when I was young.  She bleached it when I was a teenager.  When I got married she was there to help me.  She was there when I had a car wreck and broke my hip.  She took care of me.

We did so much together.  We opened a hamburger place called Ken's Carry Out.  She took care of my kids anytime I asked.  She was always there.  We did so much together from helping move us, to letting us live in her house while ours was getting built.  We would go out to eat together on Fridays.

We went to garage sales and auctions together.  Once we went to an auction and bought so many ceramic moulds that we had to call Gerald and Rod and anyone that had a truck to come and help us pick them up. 

It was always nice to walk to the Dairy Queen together and come back to eat it on the front porch.  It was nice to sit on the porch in the evenings.

My sister always had a Coke for you and she always thought you needed a coozy to keep it in.

We always loved going camping together, sitting around the fire eating marshmallows and drinking.
I have so many memories inside of me of my sis and I will keep them until we meet again and can share and laugh together.

My Sister Dora,
I love her very much.  We became close when I would pick her up on bowling night and Sunday for church.  Her daughter bought an Alan Jackson Precious Memories CD for her.  She loved it so much, Leann went and bought one.  She sang along to it all the way to church and all the way home.
I remember when she met Gerald.  She moved her bed in front of the window to watch him when he came home from work.  She would say "that's the man I am going to marry"... and she did.  Dora and Gerald were good to family.  If you were needing help, they were there for you.
I love her and miss her very much.

My mom was a women who had love for everyone she met.  I think that she is the one who taught me you can never have enough friends, which I try and teach to my kids to this day.

Her love of family was like no other.  You would ask her what she would want for any special occasion for her and her answer would be "I don't need anything, I just want to be with my family".

I Know growing up dad worked a lot but we were blessed with very good parents who never let us do without anything we needed.  The simple things in life were the best memories like going on small vacations.  Going to grandma & grandpa Boone's  for family dinners, getting to go on bike rides with the Shockley's, swimming in the stock tank, rides to Joplin to visit dad's family and when we got a camper so we could go camping that was the BEST!!

My mom loved her grand kids I think later on as they grew up that would give her someone to go to garage sales with so she could buy more stuff.

My mom will always hold a soft spot in my heart as her love was never ending.  She  will always be very special to me.  I would always tell her as I was leaving "Mom be good" and her answer would be with a chuckle and a smile "I am always good".  Thanks for always being my MOM!!

"Memories of a Lifetime"

Dora & I were best friends and our children were also best friends.  The times I spent with her and her family were priceless. We sewed together for years, made our girls school clothes.  After they grew up they made fun of us and was a bit disgusted about the way they looked (we thought we had done an awesome job).  We also had a blast making Pam's wedding dress and wedding party dresses, Dora was so patient and attentive with that sewing project.  We use to watch the mice run in the house, so afraid they would run up our pant legs so we tucked our pants in our socks. We were sewing one day when the pressure cooker blew up!!!  It was funny and awesome to see beans hanging from the ceiling, that was a BIG clean up project.
  
We used to ride the bike path almost every night with our kids sometimes getting so late our husbands would come looking for us.  At times we would put Penny & Stephanie in the car turn up the music real loud and sing at the top of our lungs.  We thought we were really cool.  We camped together once in awhile and always had a great time!! 
 
We worked together at Harry St. School in the kitchen & latchkey. Dora was a worker to be proud of .  She loved the kids and they loved her.  We took off from latchkey one day and got our 1939 Chevy Coupe to take up to the school for show & tell, we both giggled like 16 yr old school girls.....what FUN we had together. We mostly laughed but sometimes cried with each other. I would come and get her when it snowed.  We would go the church parking lot and cut donuts in the snow, she would squeal like a little pig and I would laugh like crazy at her.  Dora was always up for an adventure.

Bryan always had a crush  on Candy, we use to tease them and tell them they were promised in marriage when they grew up.  I remember  one day getting ready to go out and suntan in her back yard, she had on her 2 piece bathing suit and turned around and said to me "NOT BAD FOR FORTY" she really was a HOT mess!!  

Oh what a girl, I will miss her for ever and ever.  My fondest memory and the happiest time of my life with her is the time spent on the bike path with her and the kids.  I know there must be a bike path in Heaven and I can just see her peddling away.

Missing you grandma.  I know you've been "gone" for a while now, but it just all seemed so real at your funeral.  I haven't cried in years but the emotions were too deep to keep in.  I'll miss you babysitting me and the cousins all the time.  Having so many toys for us kids to have so much fun with.  The "swimming pool" we could always have so much fun in during the summer months.  The tree we could always climb in the front yard.  That feeling of walking into your house every time we would come over to visit.  Scootering off your porch, and even mowing your lawn for you when I was old enough.  Helping Mom try to take care of you and grandpa.  I am happy you were able to spend at least a few years of the end of your life in the house you raised your family in.  It really is unfortunate we couldn't keep you there until the end, but the world can be unfair and cruel sometimes.  I MISS and LOVE you grandma.  Your death has helped me not take life for granted and to strive for my aspirations.  I hope to make you proud.  I miss you grandma, I'm sorry I didn't see you as much as I could have at the end there, but it was really hard for me.  I love you for everything you have done for me and I couldn't ask for a better person to be my grandma.  I can see you making us lunch and random memories that didn't seem like much at the time but now mean the world to me.  I had the best grandma, bar-non.  Rest in peace, and I'll do my best to make you proud grandma.  It's the least I could do for you. LOVE YOU!!

Things I remember about my grandma.  She always took all of us to garage sales & spoiled us.  She loved her coca cola and the Dog-N-Shake.  She made the best ramen noodles.  She used to take me to school and I remember one time she was backing out of the driveway and backed into the neighbors parked car.  She was more concerned about getting me to school so rather than talking to the owner, she took me to school.  She joked that I probably wouldn't have a ride back from school because she'd be arrested for a hit and run. (She talked to the neighbor when she got home from dropping me off, she wasn't a criminal). She LOVED her grandchildren more than anything and I think I speak for all of us grandchildren when I say that we were extremely LUCKY to have her.

Candy, thank you so much for allowing me into your family and to care for your sweet mother.  I loved her dearly and am so very sorry for your loss.
