She was one of 15 children born to Jose and Sarah Torrez in the Mexican Village of Dodge City.
Eleanor was loved by many and was more than just a mother. She wore many hats through her 89 years. She was a mother, first and foremost, but also took on the roles of provider, father, disciplinarian, adviser, counselor, mediator, and best friend. She had a passion for her family and friends and would do anything she could for them. She also had a unique and loving relationship with each of her children, and every person she met. Her door was always open and her love and generous spirit made her someone who everyone looked forward to spending time with, no matter how often you visited. Her love language was cooking, and spending time together with family and friends. If you showed up at Eleanor’s house, you had a plate of food and a cup of coffee in front of you whether you asked for one or not. Words cannot express the sorrow and void that is felt within her children, and all those who love her.
She leaves behind her husband, Jesus Velasco; and two surviving siblings, Josephine Moreno and Margarita Montes; her 11 beloved children are, Everett Lacer (Deceased), Mary Meza, Gregory Lacer, Esther Williams (Deceased), Rose Martinez, Gordon Lacer (Deceased), Paula Patterson, Carlos Jaso Villasenor, Graciela Merman-Joslin, Manuel Juan Mar, and Joe Gonzalez; and her 31 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren who complete her legacy.
A gathering to celebrate her life with family and friends will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 9:30 AM at Hillside Funeral Home West, 2929 West 13th Street North, Wichita, KS 67203. Burial will follow immediately at Greenwood Cemetery, 6231 W. 47th St. S., Wichita, KS 67215. A memorial service will then take place at noon, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses – Haysville, 7106 S. Meridian St., Haysville, KS 67060.
