Wilma "Dood" J. Thompson

Wilma "Dood" J. Thompson, 81, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 in Wichita. Wilma was born the daughter of Glenn and Elaine Rowe on August 12, 1939 in Plattsburgh, NY. She was married to Phil Taylor, Jr. in 1957. They had four children together. They were later divorced. She married John “Tom” Thompson in 1973. She lived the past 44 years in Wichita, Kansas, but she was a proud and spunky New York girl at heart. Wilma worked much of her life in various secretarial roles. She served 27+ years as a volunteer on the Wheat State Credit Union Board. Wilma was a wonderful cook. She had a flare for decorating, and the color red was often involved. Wilma had a hard time passing up a good garage sale, or the chance to try her hand at the slot machines. She was a people person, making friends wherever she went. Family and friends were the most important things in the world to her. (Four-legged, furry friends with wagging tails captured her heart as well.) Many called her “Dood” or “Wilma”, but in her eyes, the names that meant the most to her were: ma/mom, mimi/ grandma, daughter, friend, or sister. Those that knew and loved her will miss her dearly. She often said, “It is what it is.” We hope that her “what it is ” now is delightful-- as she happily reunites with her family and friends “on the other side.” She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter; Tracey Crowner, husband; John "Tom" Thompson, brother; Wayne "Skipper" Rowe. Survivors include her children; Wendy Taylor, Donna Taylor, Toby Taylor, brother; Scott Rowe, 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3-5pm on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Hillside Funeral Home, 2929 W. 13th St. N., Wichita. Graveside service will be 10am on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Lakeview Cemetery, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside St., Wichita, Kansas 67219.
