Richard Russell Close of Ingram Texas went to be with the Lord on May 6th, 2021. He was born in New York City, New York on April 17th 1938. Richard married Peggy in 1978. She was the greatest love of his life. He had a long career as a design build general contractor in the Houston area. He received many achievement awards including the presidential best building award from Ceco's Building Division and his successes were published in Metal Construction News in May of 1985.
Richard was a good and faithful servant, serving in many ministries over the years. He built Elim Church in Houston, Texas where he served as deacon and head usher as well as heading up a group for Promise Keepers. He was a mentor to recovering alcoholics and guided many young men to become men of God despite their circumstances. He arose many Sunday mornings at 6 am to serve breakfast and teach Bible study to the 3H Pathways Youth Group at Hunt Methodist Church. He treasured helping others. He was a member of the Power Hour Christian Center in Ingram, Texas and had a passion for Jesus and sharing the Gospel. Richard was loved and appreciated for his spontaneous good natured sense of humor. He was loved deeply and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Close, his children Mark Close and wife Christy, Shawn Close, Julie Close and husband Tim Thompson and Ricky Close. Richard had 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by his brother Herb Close and wife Molly. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Immy Close and sister, Virginia Reagan.
A visitation for Richard will be held Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm with a funeral service and interment to follow at 2:00 pm. All services will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery.
