Cecil native to Greene County, N. C. was born on May 13, 1931 to the late Walter King and Glen (Davis King).
Upon the death of his father, Cecil entered the Methodist Orphanage, Raleigh, N. C, at the age of 9 in 1940.
Cecil joined the U.S. Navy in 1950 and retired July 31, 1969 as Chief Petty Officer.
Following his retirement he went to work for Cameron Brown Company - First Union Co. -Wells Fargo- with 20 years service and retired as a Vice President at the age of 57. He attended N. C. State University..
Cecil enjoyed playing golf with his buddies at Cheviot Hills Golf Club and became rather good at the game, winning several tournaments. He also was an avid fisherman enjoying our place at Atlantic Beach and participating in numerous King Mackrel Tournaments out of Atlantic Beach. Our neighbors on Skidmore Street enjoyed the fish he caught and shared with them. Cecil was a loyal member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church for 32 years and a member of the Walter Anderson Sunday School Class and served on numerous church committees. He is now a member of North Raleigh UMC. .He was an active member of the Methodist Orphanage Alumni Association having served as President two terms and a regularly participated in alumni functions.
He was very devoted to his family and really treasured his grandchildren.
Cecil is preceded in death by his parents Walter & Glen King.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret (Tew) King, Daughter, Karen Kosanke - husband Bob Kosanke, Daughter Donna McLawhorn - husband David McLawhorn, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday Sept. 28, 2021 at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt Rd., Raleigh, N. C. 27615 with Dr. Duke Lackey officiating. The family will receive guests immediately following the service. Burial with full military honors will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Methodist Home for Children, 1041 Washington St., Raleigh, N. C. 27605-1259 orNorth Raleigh United Methodist Church.
