Jessie Mae Williamson, 87 years of age, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020 at Lincoln Hospital. Visitation will be at Valhalla Funeral Home on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 12 o’clock. Funeral will follow at 1 o’clock.
Jessie was born August 13, 1933 in Athens, Alabama to the late Noah Watson Williamson and Rosa Woods Williamson. She was the third of seven children. They grew up as sharecroppers and picked cotton in the Hazel Green & Toney area. Jessie went to Walnut Grove School and Meridianville School. She would walk with her siblings about 2 miles to Bevill’s Chapel Baptist Church, circa 1945.
Jessie married James Blakely Fowler in 1950. They were married for 21 years, and had three children, James Lary Fowler, Mary Nell Fowler Fuller, and Harold Dean Fowler. They were residents of Hazel Green, AL.
Jessie married Walter “Buddy” Williamson in late 1972, and were married for 20 years. They lived in Huntsville, AL then later moved to Scottsboro, AL on the lake where they enjoyed fishing. Buddy passed away in 1992.
In 2004, James Blakely Fowler passed away, and Jessie decided to move onto James’ land with her son Harold, located in Fayetteville, TN.
Jessie worked at several famous Huntsville landmarks, such as Humphrey’s Restaurant, Genesco Shoe Plant (now known as Lowe Mill), Merrimack Cotton Mill, and Huntsville Hospital. Jessie loved to fish, mow grass, play cards, and enjoyed the company of her family. Jessie entertained anyone around her with her stories of the past. She was never at a loss for words. She was a small person in stature, but had a big heart for others. She would do anything she could for anyone. She enjoyed her daytime television; she anxiously waited for her soap operas everyday. She, alone, kept Burger King chicken nuggets quota at an all time high. She loved watching Alabama sports and NASCAR with her family, even though she had no idea what was going on. She liked to play jokes on everyone, such as pinning Buddy’s pajama shirt to his pillowcase. If you were playing cards, you would certainly want to be on her team, not against her!
Jessie is survived by her son, James Lary Fowler, her daughter Mary Nell Fuller (Dan), her sister, Jettie Hyatt, her grandsons, Joshua Heath Fowler (Tayler), and Zachary Daniel Fuller, her granddaughter, Hannah Rose Fuller, and numerous, well loved nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.
Jessie is preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Rosa Williamson, her husband, Walter “Buddy” Williamson, and first husband, James Blakely Fowler, her sisters, Mattie Schrimsher and Dorothy Ary, her brother, Haskel Williamson, her son, Harold Dean Fowler, and her granddaughter, Jessica Leigh Fowler.
The pallbearers for the funeral: Will Ary, Ernest Swinford, Jason Hyatt, Phil Williamson, Jerry Hyatt, and Wyatt Baldwin. The honorary pallbearer is Noah Ary.
Her family appreciates the entire staff of nurses, doctors, and EMT personnel from Lincoln County.
