Born to the late James T. Boyle, Sr. and Annette Boyle, Jay grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a proud Jayhawk at the University of Kansas and later a Ramblin’ Wreck at Georgia Tech.
Jay built a distinguished career as an electrical engineer, contributing to the Saturn V rocket at Martin Company, working at Boeing (where he and Helen met), contributing to the development of the C5 aircraft at Lockheed, and later working at Bell Labs and Bell South before finishing his career as an adjunct professor at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta.
He was a devoted husband to Helen for 59 years, a proud father to Tom and Sherri, and a kind father-in-law to Cathy and Will. He adored his three granddaughters, Ellie, Olivia, and Sarah who call him “Pop-pops” and brought him tremendous joy.
Jay will be remembered for his warmth, his ready smile, and his delight in life’s simple pleasures—whether a “bun, burger, bun” hamburger, a slice of chocolate cake with white icing, hiking, cycling, or time spent with family and friends. His Irish heritage gave him a quiet pride and a deep sense of belonging that shaped the way he cared for others.
Jay’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 Cobb Pkwy NW, Kennesaw, GA. Remembrances and pictures will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either:
