

She was born in Tamms, Illinois on November 6th, 1940 to the late Ernest Edward and Viola Gail (Harvell) Twente.
Shirley graduated from Mounds Township High School and attended Southern Illinois University.
She was married to the late Frank Joseph Toolan Jr. on February 14th, 1980.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She had been a cashier at a local hardware store and helped her brother at his body shop.
She was a member of the Elks Lodge 2606, Moose Lodge 2121, and the American Legion Post 103. She sang as a baritone in a Sweet Adelines barbershop quartet. She had many creative talents to include painting, crochet, macrame, sewing, and flower arranging. She loved to read and was an unparalleled cook. She enjoyed word puzzles, gardening, and getting together with her friends.
Shirley is survived by daughter Katie (Don) Francis and son Mark (Beverly) Toolan. She also leaves behind grandchildren Ashton, Christopher, Mark, Jessica, Chris, Victoria, Dylan, three great-grandchildren; and brother Harold Twente.
She was predeceased by her husband, parents, son Warren Jones, daughter Melanie Lees, son Miles Toolan, and grandchildren Trent and Sarah.
