YOUNG, Donald Burton— 78, Halifax, passed Thursday, November 19, 2009, at home. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late George Henry and Doris Mae (Flint) Young. He worked various positions throughout his career and learned to speak French fluently while employed with VIA Rail for 39 years before retiring in 1986. As an avid bowler on many leagues, he won several trophies which he proudly kept on display in his home. He also greatly enjoyed reading novels and watching sports and drama programs on Bravo. Donnie is survived by daughters, Barbara, Debra, Donna, Halifax; Terry (Shawn) Preston, Timberlea; April and Blaise, Winnipeg; son, Cory (Montreal); sister, Evelyn Young, Halifax; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wives, Gracie (Deleon) and Yvonne (MacLean); brother, William Flint Montreal; sister, Marjorie Mae (Flint) Ross; son, Bradford and daughter, Jocelyn (Young) Taliafero. As per Donnie's wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest with his late wife Yvonne. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 24, at 12 noon immediately followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax, Rev. Clarence Armstrong officiating. Burial in St. John's Cemetery followed by a reception at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any Diabetes charity.
