David pursued training in the culinary arts, earning a certificate that helped shape a long and steady working life defined by commitment and pride in doing things well. He served for 30 years beginning as a chef and then working his way up to Supervisor of the kitchen for the State of Michigan Department of Corrections. Even after retirement, David continued working for Tractor Supply in Jackson for another 20 years—because retirement simply did not suit him. In every season of life, he was a beloved presence to those who knew him, and his hard-working nature was evident not only in his career, but in the care he brought to everyday responsibilities.
On November 28, 1987, David was united in marriage to Zada (Yates). Together they blended their family with six children: Elizabeth (Ray) Wallace, Michael (Jessica) Herrick, Brian (Jenny) Herrick, Michelle (Tim) Geddings, Aaron (Sara) Seiter, and Susan Seiter. David is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, as well as a brother, Scott (April) Seiter, and a sister, Melody (Randy) Edwards. David was preceded in death by both his parents.
David rode motorcycles all his life until his health prevented him from doing so. He and Zada traveled many places together on his Honda Gold Wing, making the most of the open road and the time they shared. He took great pride in his yard work, and he enjoyed golfing until he could no longer continue. Over the years, David participated in many golf leagues, valuing both the game and the camaraderie that came with it.
According to David’s wishes, cremation will take place and no public services are planned at this time. The family is being served by J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, Albion. Please feel encouraged to share memories, condolences, and photos with the family through this online guest book.
