April 16, 2018 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was born March 20, 1933 to
Howard and Minnie “Sue” (Ellis) Hakes. She was a graduate of Albion Schools in 1951.
Marjorie married Ira J. Burns, of Burlington on June 8, 1952 and he preceded her on December 17, 2017.
Marjorie was known around town as “M Bums” the clown, appearing in many parades and school functions. She was active in the Albion Area Ambulance Service when it was getting its start, served one term as president of the ladie’s auxiliary of the Ambulance Service. She was an avid bowler and served in many offices of the Albion Women’s Bowling Association, where she was the President when the Association had its 50th Birthday Party. She was also an avid baseball and softball fan. She played the game for over 50 years. Upon her retirement from playing, she turned to umpiring and coaching. The oldest softball on display in the Softball Hall of Fame was donated by Mrs. Burns.
Marjorie is survived by her son, Robert (Susan) Burns; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren;
many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was “Mom” to several people scattered over the states, and was “Grandma” to a host of
Kids and she loved them all. She was a member of New Hope Worship Center in Albion.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00PM
at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, Michigan 49224. Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 20 at 1:00 PM with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will follow
at Cook’s Prairie Cemetery, 23 Mile Road, Homer, Michigan
