Paul Mathew Newman, age 98, of Albion, Michigan, passed away on September 12, 2026, at home with his family by his side. He was born November 12, 1927, in Albion, Michigan to Erdman and Hazel (Romm) Newman.
Paul always had a story. He loved to chat. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He took many trips camping and hunting to Wyoming and his favorite camping spot Up North. He especially loved ice fishing with his friends. Paul was an avid reader and would read anything and everything. He kept his library card updated to this very day. The following year, at 17, he joined the Merchant Marines and on his 18th birthday, he joined the United States Navy. After returning home, Paul worked with the Dean family doing masonry. He later bought a semi-truck and spent 30 plus years hauling steel as an owner/operator. After retirement from trucking, he worked for the City of Albion. He loved to take out his Model-A truck to parades and car shows. He also enjoyed spending time at his son, Paul’s, home helping out with projects around the house and checking out the garden, and fishing off his daughter, Leslie’s, dock.
Paul is survived by his children, Paul (Ellen Lazarus) Newman and Leslie (Jeffrey) Hale; grandchildren, Sarah Newman, Catherine Newman, Michael Newman, Nathan Hale and Brandon Hale, and 16 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, September 19, 2026, at 1:00PM per his request at Riverside Cemetery, 1301 S. Superior St. Albion, MI 49224.
