Steven R. Jones, 66, a longtime resident of Battle Creek, Michigan, who was always proud to call Albion home, went to be with our Heavenly Father on October 4, 2026. He was born June 3, 1960, at Sheldon Memorial Hospital in Albion, the son of Clara Lackey.
Steven was an outstanding basketball player during his high school years, playing for Betsy Lane High School in Floyd County, Kentucky. He graduated from Albion Senior High. He worked numerous jobs over the years including security for a decade before joining the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office in 2000. He retired in June 2017 after 17 years of honorable service.
Steven was a firm believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He enjoyed music, basketball, fishing, and cheering for Michigan’s sports teams, especially the Detroit Tigers. He spent many summer days taking his two sons out in a small fishing boat, teaching them one of his favorite hobbies and creating memories they will always treasure. Above all things on this earth, he loved spending time with his sons, whether in person or over the phone. His voice would light up whenever he knew Tyler or Tico was calling. He was an outstanding father who deeply loved his two boys and their families.
Survivors include his sons, Tyler (Erica) Jones of Hudsonville, Michigan, and Tico (Stephanie) Jones of Cabot, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Raelyn, Kaden, Penelope, and Millie; brothers, Vernon Jones, Albert Jones, Reginald Jones, John Lackey, and Michael Lackey; and sisters, Jonnie Mae Miller and Jada Watkins.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Rosa Collins; mother, Clara Lackey; brother, James Kelly; sister, Rosalee Jones; and special uncle and aunt, Sam and Vivian Collins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on October 16, 2026, at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home in Albion, MI. Committal at Albion Memory Gardens will immediately follow the service.
