Throughout his life, Wayne was known as a devoted and hard-working man—steady in his commitments and dependable in the way he provided for those he loved. Over the years, he was employed at many foundries in the Charlotte and Springport areas, worked at Tenneco in Litchfield, and owning and operating Jones Bar and Grill in Litchfield. In each season of work, Wayne carried himself with quiet determination and a thoughtful sense of responsibility.
On August 5, 2015, Wayne married Carolyn Potter, and she survives. His compassion was most clearly felt in the time he gave to family—especially in the simple, meaningful ways he showed up, listened, and cared.
Wayne found joy in the outdoors and the open road. He loved fishing and hunting, and he especially enjoyed long car rides with no destination, taking in the countryside and looking at animals along the way. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding, watching TV, and settling in with a good western. Yet some of his most cherished moments were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren—taking pride in having them close and reading books to them. When his children were young, Wayne organized family gatherings so everyone would spend time together, building memories through togetherness and shared tradition.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; a special niece, Starla Willoughby; and a cousin, Denny Collins.
In addition to his wife, Carolyn Jones, Wayne is survived by two daughters, Khristina (Mark) Grimm and Kimberly Jones; grandchildren, Stephanie Grimm, Abigail Grimm, Devon Zachow, and Christopher Zachow; step-children, Susie Olson, Teresa Baker, Mike Fenley and Charles Bahr; step-grandchildren, Amy Baker, Susie Fenley, and Aron Fenley; and siblings, Karen Whitcomb, Joyce Hotchkiss, Terry (Donna) Jones, and Gary Jones.
The family will celebrate Wayne’s life with a memorial service Monday June 29th, 11:00 a.m. at Grace Freewill Baptist Church, 16680 E. Michigan Ave., Albion with Pastor Ellis Howard officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Freewill Baptist Church.
