Joe was a friend of my dad, Burt Hertzog, and they were Scout Leaders together at St. Francis. Because of  that friendship I got a job while I was in college working for Joe in the curing room at Lee Tire. What a wonderful guy and a great boss! The last time I had occasion to talk to him was when Herbie and Rosemary were our neighbors on Astor St and he was attending a family function there. Our condolences to the entire Slater/Holmes family; take comfort in the knowledge of a life well lived!

I am so sorry to hear of Pop's passing.   He was a wonderful, wonderful man, and always so loving and kind to me when I would visit.

What to say... I am at a loss.. I am so sad at the passing of my Uncle Joe. He was my daddy's big brother and he was a special man. He  will be missed by many.  He touched so many lives and was one of the good ones. Joe, Joanne, Rosemary, Jerry, Gina and Jeffrey I am so sorry for your loss but know that he is home with the love of his life and his family. He was a great man and I was proud to call him my uncle
