Ann Teresa Webb
January 18, 1942 – November 29, 2019
Ann Teresa Webb, 77 of Ames, IA passed away on November 29, 2019, at Mary Greeley Hospital. A Visitation will be held at Stevens Memorial Chapel Tuesday December 10th 2019 from 4:30pm – 8:30pm. A celebration of life service will be held in April, so distant friends and family can attend.
Ann was born At Mary Greeley Hospital January 18, 1942, in Ames, Iowa to Darrell Webb and Lorena (North) Webb.
She was the first of three ornery children, born into a poor, but hardworking family. Early on she displayed a quick wit, a sharp tongue, and a questioning mind. Saint Cecilia’s Catholic School may have not been the right fit for her, but she made the best of it making lifelong friends and terrorizing her sister, Mary Christine, and brother, Mike, along with the rest of the neighborhood on Lettie Street. She made sure she made an impression so they would know her, as more than just the postman’s “Duke’s” daughter. Confident and headstrong, when someone told her she couldn’t do something, she never hesitated to prove them wrong.
She graduated Ames High School in 1960. Ann gave up a university job with benefits to build from scratch her own business, just to be told she would be better off having stayed a secretary. She married, owned a home and had a kid, even though the doctors said that was impossible.
The people who knew her have described her as “amazingly talented, blunt, hardworking, creative, stubborn, giving, kind, generous, curious, and funny”. In her many adventures through life she danced on TV, traveled the world, built her ideal home, had a loving close knit family and had fun with her many precious friends. Ann started a business from scratch, lost everything, and successfully rebuilt it. She would never say no to a new adventure whether it was horseback riding, train hopping to Chicago, Morell mushroom hunting or trying to find a new painting spot and end up almost getting shot for trespassing.
For most of us that knew her well, Ann was the woman in charge of her own direction, ideally driving her cherry red convertible with the wind in her hair, an extra-long cigarette in one hand, a glass of wine in the other, the back seat loaded with painting supplies and the trunk overfilled with food and wine.
Artist, Business Woman, Seamstress, Trailblazer, Sister, Daughter, Friend, Aunt, Cousin, Mom, a selfless giving, caring, woman, and one of the most stubborn women you will have ever met. She found joy in nature, in making people blush, in her creative outlets and independence. In later years she found an endless supply of joy from her grandchildren Adam and Maha, they made her so proud.
Ann is survived by her sons, Brad Baetz and Abdul Benbah; Daughter Malika Moutiq, her two talented grandchildren Adam and Maha; her Brother Mike Webb, Sister-in-law Sherri Webb, her Nieces’ Tanya and Tara Webb, and all the rest of the family and close friends, who called her MOM.
She is preceded by her mother Lorena, her father Howard; and her sister Mary, may they receive her in love, joy, and peace.
