Helen Elizabeth Riley

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Ames Municipal Cemetery, 310 E 9th St, Ames, IA 50010.

Helen, one of seven children, was born November 10, 1926, in Denora, Pennsylvania to John and Edith Chilzer. She graduated high school at Charleroi High School, Charleroi, Pennsylvania. Helen married William F. Riley in 1945 and together they had two children, Carol A. (Riley) Stasak and William F. Riley II.

Helen worked as an auditor for Sears, Roebuck & Company and for the Iowa State University book store as an assistant manager, retiring in 1990.

Helen and Bill were avid Iowa State football and basketball fans where they would travel weekends to attend out of town conference games. Bill and Helen also enjoyed golfing together. Helen was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching their games. She also enjoyed playing card games with family and friends, as well as, playing bingo.

Though we mourn her passing, we are thankful for the years we were blessed to share with her. Helen’s legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband but is survived by her daughter Carol of Merritt Island, Florida and son William (Linda) of Branson West, Missouri, three grandchildren William Stasak, James Riley and Christine Riley and four great-grandchildren.
