Mike Clayberg, 72, passed away at Taylor House Hospice on April 20, 2022, with his family by his side. A visitation will be held on April 30, 2022, at 10 am, followed by a memorial service at 11 am at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, Iowa. A graveside service with military honors will follow services at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Mike was born on November 28, 1949, in Ames, Iowa to Richard and Florence "Pat" Clayberg. Throughout his life, Mike lived in Roland, Story City, Ames, Iowa Falls, Marshalltown, and Altoona, Iowa. He married his Ames highschool sweetheart Judy (Church) Clayberg. They celebrated 51 years of marriage in March. Following high school, Mike joined the Army where he proudly served for 2 years in Louisiana, Indiana and Germany. Upon his return from Germany, Mike began his career as a meter reader for Iowa Electric Light and Power in Ames. He then worked as a lineman, storeroom gas and electric serviceman and substation technician with Iowa Electric Light & Power/Alliant Energy, retiring after 40 years in 2008. Mike then went to work for Interstate Transmission Construction (ITC) for the next 7 years.
Mike was the ultimate family man and could be found wherever his wife, daughters, son-in-laws and grandchildren were as their biggest supporter and cheerleader. Mike's girls all fought over time with him on the dance floor and he'll always be remembered for the joy he found in this. Mike will be remembered for the happiness he found in spending time with his family and of course, an Iowa State Cyclone win.
Mike is survived by his wife Judy (Church) Clayberg of Altoona, daughters Wendy (Randy) Warden of Des Moines and Marci (Brett) Burns of Marshalltown; grandson Lance Warden, granddaughter Reagan Burns of Marshalltown and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Pat Clayberg and his siblings Patricia "Trish" and Rick.
