

Paul Sanford Sydnes, 71, of Huxley, died peacefully surrounded by his family Friday, August 19, 2011. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m on Thursday, August 25 at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Fellowship and refreshments will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church, 209 N. 2nd Ave., Huxley.
Paul was born September 30, 1939 in Ames to Sanford P. and Gladys (Larson) Sydnes. He married Susan K. Erzinger April 20, 1963. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation in Ames for 44 years, retiring in 2002. During that time he and Susan also farmed on the family homestead.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Susan, of Huxley; three children, Penny (Ronald) Thiessen, of Ames, Tami (Scott) Wilson, of Huxley, and David Sydnes of Ames; seven grandchildren, Jacob Cellan, Dylan Cellan, and Rachel Thevenot of Ames, Abigail and Amanda Wilson of Huxley, Hayden and Gavin Sydnes of Ames. Four step-grandchildren, Ashley (Sam) Blaisdell of Des Moines, Krystal Handy of Norwalk, Kenny Thiessen, of Norwalk, and DJ Williams of Ankeny; four great-grand children; two sisters, Marjorie (Harley) Lewiston of Randall and Donna Dahl of Sioux Falls, SD; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
