Virgil Blau was born February 18, 1929 in Alexander, Iowa to John and Sophie (Stoffer) Blau. He married Lillian Wille on May 30, 1958.
He served in the U.S. Army Artillery in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He attended Waterloo Barber School and barbered in Ames. He then became a health inspector for the State of Iowa.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Lillian Blau of Ames; son, Kirk, retired LtCol, USMC and wife, Elizabeth Blau,of Alton, Missouri, and their children, Ryan, Ashley, and Jared; and daughter, Gina, and husband, Douglas Hansen, and their sons, Colin and Derek, all of Ankeny.
He was known for his sense of humor, which he vigorously shared with his grandchildren. He enjoyed taking his “Princess” to the dances at Lake Robbins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arnold and Walter, and one sister, Anna Fern “Tootsie” Armstrong.
