Amy was born on July 14, 1955 in Chicago, IL to the late George III and Ruth (Beaver) Verbeck. She went to Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin where she met a group of friends that were her chosen family throughout the rest of her life. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in social work and found fulfillment working in and managing nursing homes across the many places she called home over the years. After having her two children, she settled in North Carolina where she became an active member in her community. Amy was a devoted Girl Scout Troop leader, Seeds of Love tutor, Meals on Wheels volunteer, and participated in various programs at her church. Throughout her life she almost always had a cat and a craft project with her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her cousins, Jack and Martha; her niece, Brittany; and brother-in-law, Joel.
She is survived by her two children, Marie and Emily; her brother, Mark; her sister, Linda; her cousin, Judy Ludwig and her family; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws. She is also remembered as a loyal and caring friend to many loved ones across various places and phases of her life.
Amy’s immediate family will receive family and friends on Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home with a memorial service to immediately follow.
Another service will be held in the spring in the Midwest where many other loved ones live. The date is yet to be determined but is expected to be after the snow melts.
