
April Viola (Walker) MacBride was born on April 28, 1960, in Rochester, New York, to Martin and Margaret (Hummel) Walker. From the very beginning, April displayed an extraordinary intelligence and quick wit. In grammar school, she was part of the major achievement program, a recognition of her academic excellence. During her years at John Marshall High School in Rochester, she shined both in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. She played volleyball and earned the nickname "Spike Walker" for her competitive spirit. In her senior year, she successfully completed her solo flight in a Cherokee single-engine airplane through the school's aviation program - a remarkable accomplishment for a young woman of her time. April was also a member of the Vocational Industrial Club of America, where she held a leadership role that became a foundation for her future pursuits.
After high school, April's dedication to education only grew. She attended Monroe Community College, earning her associate's degree, before continuing at St. John Fisher College for her Bachelor's degree. Determined to pursue a career in law, she later attended the University at Buffalo, where she received her Juris Doctorate.
In 2000, April and her family relocated to North Carolina, where she went on to practice law for more than two decades with diligence and integrity. Her commitment to justice and her steady presence in the courtroom earned her wide respect. In 2016, she was appointed as a Wake County Magistrate Judge, faithfully service as a fair and impartial jurist admired by both her peers sand the community.
April's life was deeply rooted in love and family. She met and married her devoted husband, Jon, who preceded her in death. Together, they shared more than 30 years of partnership, laughter, and unwavering support - building a life filled with cherished memories and enduring love. Together, they raised their beloved children - Nichole (Tony), Jonathan (Samantha), Tyler (Molly), and Jamie Lee - who were the pride and joy of her life. Her legacy of love continues through her cherished grandsons, Owen and Caleb. April also leaves behind her brother, Milton (Terisa), her sisters Sherry (Anthony) and Marty (Sam), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends.
Beyond her professional and family life, April found joy in her hobbies and creative passions. She was an avid reader with a deep love of books, always eager to explore new ideas and stories. In the kitchen, she delighted family and friends with her baking, filling her home with warmth and the sweet aroma of her creations. April was also gifted quilter, creating beautiful pieces that reflected both her skill and her generous spirit. Her quilts, like her life, were stitched together with love, patience, and care.
April will be remembered for her brilliance, fairness, creativity, and above all, her boundless love for her family.
