She was born in Illinois to the late Harold and Genevieve Hill. She, her parents, and brother, Burton, moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania early on.
Barbara lived a very interesting life complete with higher education, travel and fun. She attended college in Washington, DC at American University. She had some very interesting college friends including Michael and Susan Sarandon. For Susan’s 21st Birthday, Barbara’s family were given a three-room suite at the Capitol Hilton where the ballroom hosted the party. (Not to name drop, but, the guest host and speaker was Ed McMahon! )
Newport, Rhode Island was a special summer haunt but her European travels were great fun. Most summers, she traveled to Europe or parts of it. One summer, she resided in Paris and another in London. Bilingual, she spoke French and some Italian. Winters were spent skiing up North.
She was a passionate cook, making tasty Chinese dishes, shopping in Boston's Chinatown for just the right ingredients. She was very "artsy" - decorating her home with a flair.
Barbara had a passion for learning and she choose teaching as her profession as a way to return that passion to others. After college, Barb moved to Brocton, Massachusetts where she spent her career teaching fifth grade in the Stoughton school system. She also had the acting bug and her favorite yearly chore was the Senior Play and creating dance routines for them. She was so happy that the kids seemed to enjoy putting on the play as much as she. She continued her education and received a Master’s Degree in English, of which she was most proud.
After her retirement, Barb relocated to Apex NC to be closer to her family and enjoy the warmer, milder climate. She most recently resided in Cary.
She is survived by her brother, Burton “Bud” Hill of Cary and his wife, and a niece and nephew; least we forget, Bellamy, her beloved pooch, who was her great joy.
Barbra’s laugh was infectious. She was a true, loyal friend who will be sorely missed. As was Barbra’s wishes, no services will be held.
