Carl Ed McConnell, resident of Cary, N.C., moved to his Mansion on the Hilltop on August 7th, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born on June 11th, 1932 in Wake Forest, N.C to James Floyd McConnell Sr. and Sarah Gertrude McConnell. He enjoyed farming, tending livestock, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and singing gospel music. He was a retired U.S. Postal Letter Carrier where he worked for 30 years before retiring to go back to farming and taking care of livestock.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother and his first wife Mally Jean McConnell. He is survived by his wife Maggie McConnell, brothers Alfred McConnell (Ann) and James Floyd McConnell Jr. (Edith). Additional survivors are Carl E. McConnell Jr. (Kay), Sara M. Martin (Jeff), Carlene Turrow (Randy), Tom Owens (Vicci), Traie Walkley (Chuck), eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Third Floor at WakeMed Cary, Transition LifeCare, and Cary Urology for the endless care and support they showed our family in his final days.
Funeral services will be held on August 16th, 2014 11:30am at Apex Funeral Home, with visitation services at 9:30am.
In lieu of flowers the family requests for donations to be made in his honor to Transition LifeCare (Hospice of Wake County) in Raleigh, N.C.
