Charles Daniel (Dan) Baucom was born in 1944 in Raleigh NC at Rex Hospital and grew up in Apex. At that time, schools were small, and Dan remained in the same schoolhouse his entire primary and secondary schooling. He was a proud Boy Scout. He graduated from NCSU in 1966 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering which was quite appropriate as he had been curious about how things worked ever since he was a child when his grandmother gave him a subscription to Popular Mechanics. He could fix anything and wouldn’t stop until he did! Building toy planes as a child manifested into a job at Lockheed Martin after college. At that Vietnam era, they were producing the C-5 Galaxy, we, as his family, have heard many stories over the years, and many of us have joined him at air shows. His love of planes and all things that fly remained until his passing.
Following that first job, he returned to NC and committed 30 years to serving the public at the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health, and Natural Resources. Upon retirement in 1999 he enjoyed spending time at the beach, riding his bicycle, always working on a project, Bible study, and working with the Carpenters for Christ.
Dan will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 25 years Debbie, his daughter Angela Feid (and Steven), his son David, his step-daughter Aimee White (Paul Murphy). He also will be remembered by the grandchildren: Logan, Rachel, Meredith, and Sophia Feid, and Easton Sickels, and Al Hamm his brother-in-law.
Family will receive friends on Monday, February 3, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at The Shepherd’s Church in Cary, NC. Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 noon, at The Shepherd's Church, with Graveside Services to follow at Apex Cemetery.
