Curtis “Chris” Christopher Calton, 55 years old, born in Greensboro, NC and passed in Holly Springs, NC. He graduated from Western Guilford High School where he was an outstanding basketball player. Chris went on to attend Elon University on a 4-year basketball scholarship where he received his bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1989.
Chris will forever be remembered as a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend of many. Thirty years ago Karen Moore, born in Raleigh, NC, walked into the office of North Carolina Equipment Company for a temporary position. Chris laid eyes on Karen and was immediately smitten. They were married five years later on December 7, 1996 and have been together ever since. Chris was one of the last of a dying breed, born and raised in the heavy-equipment business. Equipment sales ran in his blood—from a young age he followed in his father and grandfather’s footsteps working after school in the parts department of the family business, North Carolina Equipment Company. Chris worked alongside his father and brother for more than a decade. After the birth of his first child, he dedicated the last 20 years of his professional life to Liebherr Equipment Source in Product Support Service and Sales. He was a proud and admired expert in his profession. During his time at Liebherr, Chris developed many valued relationships with his customers. He especially cherished his business and personal relationship with Tom, Scott, and Jeff Sullivan of Sullivan Eastern Inc. Chris considered them family and treasured their
years in business together. Every morning on the way to work, Chris met with his breakfast buddies on Ten Ten road with whom he shared the company of good friends and conversation over a breakfast biscuit. Occasionally he enjoyed an evening at Shakey Ray’s Tavern playing darts and spending time
with friends. Chris dearly loved his wife and two daughters, and they were his focus in all that he did. He was incredibly proud of his eldest daughter Grace who will graduate from University of Alabama this Spring with honors and a degree in Public Relations. Chris was equally proud of his youngest daughter Samantha, an accomplished student and talented competitive cheerleader whose team, SSX, recently placed first in a national cheer sport competition. Chris loved his mom, Lillian, who doted on him with her homemade cakes and Southern cooking. Together they enjoyed a good shopping trip and spending time at the family beach house in Cherry Grove. Chris especially enjoyed his mother’s recent visit to
Holly Springs when they were able to spend ten days together.
Chris was preceded in death by his father Renneth Javan Calton I and brother Renneth Javan Calton II. He is survived by his daughters Grace and Samantha Calton, wife Karen Calton, mother Lillian Truitt, sister Lari Young and her son and daughter Kaelan and Lilly Young, sister-in-law Cameron Calton and her sons Austin and Landon Calton.
Chris’ family will be hosting two Celebration of Life Ceremonies with the first being held on Wednesday 03/02/22 from 6-8 PM at Apex Funeral Home and the second one on Saturday 3/5/22 from 3-5 PM at Oden Brewing Company.
