David was born on August 17, 1953 in Raleigh, NC to the late Curtis and Eileen (Ellen) Poe. David was a proud graduate of Sanderson High School and attended Lenoir County Community College, Wake Technical Community College, and North Carolina State University. David grew up in Raleigh, then moved to Apex where he owned a lawn care business for several years. Over the years, David attended Forest Hills Baptist Church, Trinity Baptist Church, Apex Baptist Church, and Hayes Barton United Methodist Church. David was an avid self-professed “dear-hunter”, always looking for his Miss Right.
David loved to sing, loudly and off-key, and he enjoyed being a part of the M&M Singers (now known as The Every Voice Choir) for several years. Though he faced many adversities in life, he always persevered and remained optimistic.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Bobbie Poe, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Dave Dorman and Carolyn and Mark Enloe; his nephew Robert C. Poe and his niece Kelly M. Poe. In addition, he is survived by two aunts, Linda Hagwood and Judy Hagwood, and many cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at Raleigh Rehab for the care they provided David over the last 10 years and the team at Transitions LifeCare for their support the last few months
Family will greet friends and guests on Sunday, August 11, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM with a funeral service to immediately follow at 3:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home. David will be laid to rest at Montlawn Memorial Park.
