Dawn enjoyed spending time with her kids and being “Grandmommie” to her grandchildren. She found the most happiness at the side of her husband of 38 years creating lifelong memories together. Her gift was selflessly serving others in a manner that made everyone feel unique and special.
Dawn is survived by her husband, John Mehalek Sr.; son, John Mehalek, Jr. and wife, Brooke Mehalek; daughter, Mary Grace Pulaski and husband, Zack Pulaski; daughter, Emily Mehalek; grandchildren, Jay, Caden, and Reese Mehalek and Zack Pulaski II; and dearest Aunt Doris Cleary.
Dawn’s vibrant personality and kind soul will be missed dearly by many including her nieces and nephews, extended family, Christian community, friends, and exceptional caregivers throughout the Duke University Health System.
Dawn will be remembered by her unwavering love and devotion for Jesus Christ.
Family will receive friends and guests on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Apex Funeral Home with burial to follow at Apex Cemetery.
