Dorothy Turner Gibson passed into Heaven's gates on February 7, 2020, highlighting a 95 year earthly journey with a blessing of family and friends. Dorothy was born June 20, 1924 to Bertha and Edward Turner in Miami, Florida. The middle of three daughters, the family eventually moved to Raleigh, where Dorothy attended elementary and high school. After graduation she attended nursing school, earning her RN, a legacy that she passed on to her daughter and one of her granddaughters.
Dorothy had a passion for quilting, spending years as a member of the Twin Rivers Quilting Guild in New Bern, receiving numerous recognitions for her quilt designs and workmanship.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ethel Turner of Raleigh and Elizabeth Justice of Charlotte. Surviving are her son Richard Gibson and wife Debbie of New Bern, NC, daughter Paula Taylor and husband Richard of Fuquay-Varina, NC; three granddaughters, Caroline Gibson of Cary, Sara Lynn Batten and husband Mike of Raleigh, and Abby Hendricks and husband Cameron of Holly Springs. Also surviving are the twinkles of her eye, 3 great-grandsons Henry Batten, Ben Hendricks and Luke Hendricks.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 11:00 AM Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh, NC.
