Eamon McCormack, 81, of Apex, NC, formerly Wappingers Falls, NY and Elphin, County Roscommon, Ireland, died Monday, November 11, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Apex, NC. Eamon was born July 3, 1938 in Ireland to the late Edward "Ned" and Mary McDermott McCormack. He was preceded in death by brothers, Diarmuid and Frank McCormack.

Eamon immigrated to the US from Ireland in 1958 and proudly served in the US Army. He remained a proud supporter of veterans throughout his life. After marriage, Eamon and Jean spent many happy years raising Meg and Eddie in Wappingers Falls, NY. He worked for Metropolitan Life for 25 years in sales and management positions. Eamon was an active member of the Wappingers BPOE2609 Order of Elks. Eamon's happiest moments were spent with his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor. His grandchildren nicknamed him “Grump” and he loved it. Time spent traveling together as a family, especially going home to Ireland, visiting the beach, the mountains, the Caribbean or just sitting around a table playing cards were the most fun for him. He was funny and charming, and loved a good laugh.

Eamon is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jean Ryan McCormack; daughter, Meg Maguire and husband, Michael; son, Eddie McCormack and wife, Linda; sisters, Aileen Bracken and Ann McGuire; brother, Seamus McCormack; grandchildren, Hailey, Ned, Jack and Kiara; brothers in law; sisters in law; nieces, nephews and life long friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held 2pm Friday, November 15, 2019 at Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St., Apex, NC 27502.

Eamon was, indeed, a grump, but he was a grump with the biggest heart in the world! Eamon and Jean have been wonderful, loving neighbors to me for 11 years. My greatest memory of Eamon, besides his love for his lovely wife and family, was how much he adored my Golden Retrievers. My precious Riley, who recently passed away, absolutely adored Eamon! If I opened my front door and Eamon was in sight, Riley would escape and run towards him, going 100 miles per hour! He would snuggle up to Eamon, turn and sit on his feet! Riley knew that Eamon would get the mail late afternoon and would sit on the bed upstairs and would look out the window and cry when he saw Eamon. I will never forget Eamon's genuine affection for dogs, with whom he was NEVER a grump!

How do pick just one memory when you lived beside this guy for over 14 years. I adored him! Eamon and I would greet each other over the fence or in the front lawn all the time. We would end up bitching about something and then laughing our asses off! He sure knew how to laugh. He loved his family so much - always bragging about his grandkids. He reminded me so much of my dad so living so far away from home gave me comfort knowing that Eamon and Jean were next door. I miss him already! xoxo
