

Earl was born in Wake County to the late John T. Sears and Annie Mason Sears. He was a graduate of Apex High School and a veteran of the North Carolina Army National Guard. Earl was known for his mechanical ability and was employed in the auto repair and auto sales most of his career. He had the opportunity to assist with the founding of the Apex Sales Company and later he and his wife formed A&E Electronics. He and his son enjoyed participating in Auto Racing and in 1985 his car won at Daytona, placing his name in the Daytona Hall of Fame. Earl was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Earl was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Becky Marie Sears; sisters, Irene White; Stella Clark; and Hallie Pendergraph; and brothers, Wade; JT; Bob; and Lester Sears.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann Cowan Sears (also known as “Speedy”); son, Glenn Sears and his wife, Angie Matheson Sears; and grandchildren, Travis Sears; Holly Sears Johnston and her husband, Christopher Johnston; and Lacey Sears.
A Funeral Service will be held 2:30pm Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Apex Funeral Home Chapel, 550 W. Williams Street, Apex, NC 27502. Interment will follow the service at Apex Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:00-2:30pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
