Edward B. Austin, 80, of Apex, NC died January 6, 2011. Born February 20, 1930 in Gastonia, NC, he was the son of the late A. H. Austin and Lola Fletcher Austin.
Ed was a member of Apex United Methodist Church. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from N.C. State University after serving in the Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as an Industrial Engineer and a Plant Manager and following his retirement as an Instructor at Catawba Valley Technical College in Industrial Engineering.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his two brothers, A. H. Austin, Jr. and Fletcher F. Austin.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Carolyn M. Austin; two daughters, Amy A. Lockman and her husband Michael of Woodway, TX and Margaret (Meg) A. Camp and her husband James of Center, TX; son, David E. Austin and his wife Elizabeth (Beth) of Cary, NC; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Apex United Methodist Church on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Glenn Mason officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 S. New Hope Rd, Gastonia, NC.
